Be it known that 1, JOHN A. BASSETT, of Salem, in the county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful, improvement in Process for vaporizing Hydrocarbon Liquids and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The nature of my invention consists in vaporizing hydrocarbon oils used for heating purposes, by means of a bath of melted metal; the oil being either poured on the surface of the metal or injected below the surface, in either case being vaporized by it, and making the first condition for its complete and perfect combustion.

I prefer to use for this purpose a composition of metals fusible at or nearly at the temperature of 600 Fahrenheit, and to place the metal in a cast-iron pan or box, placed in the fire-space of the furnace to be heated. I prefer to have a number of pipes placed in the box, so that air may be forced through the boxfin order to assist in the combustion of the vapors of the oil. The box or pan containing the metal may be heated in any suitable manner, so as to keep the metal liquid. N r V p i It is obvious that there are many devices by which this result may be accomplished, and I do not propose to limit myself to any particular device for thislpurpose; but what I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Vaporizing hydrocarbon oils for heating purposes, by abath' of melted metal, in the manner substantially as set forth.
