This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in the picker of a loom, and consists in making the shell or casing and the binder of thelpicker of raw hide, and securing it to the statt` by flanges on each side in such a manner that it cannot slip out of place when put in running order, nor break, nor allow the filling to come out; and when the'lling is worn out it may be easily replaced. l I
A is the staff, to which is fastened a raw-hide. picker-shellor case a by means of a raw-hide binder, b, which` binds the neck of the 'picker to the steif, and is secured with rivets d d, as shown in the drawings. The pickercase is made in the shaperof a loop by bending the raw hide on a proper form when made soft by soaking; and between the ends s s, forming the neck by which it is attached to the statt, is placed a strip of hide or leather, c. The two ends .s s and the strip c are fastened with rivets e e. The picker-case laps over the sides ofthe staff with projections t It, which shoulder upon the staff and keep the picker in place, as shown in fig. 2. The pickerfilling y is madelof leather, India rubber, cork, or any suitable material for striking the shuttle, and isfitted in the loop of the ease under a shoulder, z', in the hide at the edges of the upper side. v i
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'lhe combination of the picker-staff and hinder b with a raw-hide case, a, the case having laps h projecting over the sides of the staff, and a shoulder, z', in the hide to hold the illingg in place, substantially as described.
