Description
PATENTED OCT. 1, 1867,
0. ADAMS.
v FOOT REST.
f tnitch gtats 123mm CALVIN ADAMS, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent N 69,298, dated October 1, 1867.-
FOOT-REST.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CALVIN ADAMS, of the city of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Foot-Best; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in whieh- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the rest.
Figure-2 is an end View of the rest.
Figure 3 is a side view, and
Figure 4 is av perspective of a rest with two columns.
The object of this invention is to provide a. cheap and convenient foot-stander rest, which can be set in a tub or any other vessel in which a bath is taken, and be use-ti by the bother as a rest or support for the foot, either in washing or drying. These foot-rests can be made substantially in the manner herein shown and described, from any material or combination of materials which are at all suitable to be used in water. I generally make them of cast iron. The base A should be made broad enough to prevent the rest from being easily turned over by the pressure of the foot upon it. I make them four orfive inches in diameter for rests about six inches in height. They may be cast solid, as in fig. 1 of the drawing, or perforated in one or more places, or made simply as a rim, similar to the one shown in fig. 4:. The rest 13 is made of convenient size and shape to hold the foot easily and without sliding. I make them about three inches in length and two inches in breadth, slightly concave from end to end, and convex from side to side, which I think is the most convenient size and shape for use. The base A and rest B are connected by the column C, which I generally make four or five inches long so that the foot-rest, when complete, will stand about six inches in height. The rest B may be cast on to this column O,.or it may be attached to the column by a rivet, D, or other suitable device,,and arranged so as to turn on the column. Two or more columns may he used to connect and sustain the rest B, as indicated at C e, fig. 4, and the rest B may be made as a part of these columns, or attached to them in any suitable and convenient manner. This foot-rest. when made of cast iron, may be moulded and cast in one omore pieces, in the manner well known to all iron manufacturers.
Having thus shown the nature and. method of constructing my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Constructing a foot-rest with the base A of suitable diameter for its support, and the rest 13 of convenient shape to form a rest for the foot, connected by one or more columns, G C, substantially as shown and described CALVIN ADAMS.
