T ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERNE g i y Be it known that I, WILLIAM BABIN, of the city, and county, and State of New York, have invented yan improved new and useful Buckle for Clothing and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and correct description of the construction andapplication of the same to use, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon.

Figure l4 ofthe drawings represents a perspective view of the buckle attached to the middle of the back of a vest or pair of pants, the straps being shown as broken oit" to'expose the buckle.

The frame a of the buckle has two eyes or holes l b', at the middle of each side of the buckle, whereby "it is attached to the garment by sewing, in such manner, as shown at c', iig. 2, that the attachment of the buckle ,to the garment does no t interfere with the use of the aperture between the tongues as a loop, wherein to tuck ,fx-way the loose end of one of the straps. The two buckle-tongues d d are mounted in the frame upon pivots in the usual manner, except that they are a suiicient distance apart to leave an aperture, e, between them of sueient width to serve as a loop, wherein to tuck away the loose end of one of the straps f. The buckle-frame ismade deeper in section in the middle, as shown in the drawings, to give room for the loose endet` this-strap to pass under the buckle. At one and of the buckle is a loop, g, in which the loose end of the opposite strap t is secured.

The use of a double buckle attached to the middle of pants and vests, so as to take up thc strap at either v side, is of great advantage in Vgiving rmness to the back of the garment.

This desirable object is attained by my improved buckle, while it at the same time, by providing for the loose ends of the straps in the manner described, is not only prevented from being cumbersome, but becomes a neat and desirable fastening.

I prefer to use piercing-tongues, as'shown in the drawings, but jam-tongues may be used without changing the nature of my invention.

I do not claim broadly a double buckle, or buckle having a tongue at each -end of the frame, or opposite tongues in a buckle, but I claimy g The double buckle herein described, having the tongues and buckle-frame, together with the eyes or means of fastening the vbuckle to.the back of the garment, arranged with reference to each other, substantially as described, so as to provide for tucking away the loose end of one of the straps under the buckle when the buckle is fastened to the back of the garment, substantially as described.

Ialso claim the loop g, in combination with a double buckle, constructed in other respects in themnnncr and for the purposes herein described.

, And finally I claim, in a double buckle havingone frame and two opposite tongues, the eye-holes or fastening-devices, at the middle of each side of tbe'buckle-f1'an1e, substantially as described.
