'Be it known that I, LEWIS I. PESE, of McCordsville, in the county of Hancock, andState of Indiana, have invented certain4 new and useful Improvements in Portable Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being 'had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference/.marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a plan view of my fence. i
-Figure 2 is a sido elevation ofthe sam-e. t
The nature of-iny invention consists in a worm-fence so constructed thatA a .gate may bemade of any of the short panels used in making said fence.
The vvletter A, iig. 2, represents several panels ofmy'ifence in position. designates thelongitudinal and horizontal rails, of which there are two to each panel.' The said rails are perforated at suitable distances to i receivethe upright bar pales (Il. C represents the long panels, and D the short panels of my fence. The rails of the long` panels C are made to extend sufficiently far beyond the pales d to allow the ends of the rails in the Short panels C to pass between them, when said short panels are in position.- The ,projecting ends of the rails are perforated to correspond with a similar perforation near the ends'ot` short panel C. Through these perforations the bar e is made to pass, when the long and short panels are placed in position, as seen in fig. 2. By removing the bar e at one endof the short panel, the-bar e at the opposite end will answer as ahinge upon which said panel can be swung around, so as to answer the purpose of a gate;
In order to give the required stability-to the fence, the bars @will be sharpened at theiilower end, and made sufficiently long to admit of their being driven some distance in the earth. Thefence will also be strengthened by the braces g, which bind the top rails ofthe long and short panels together, a
The advantage of this fence in affording an egress from a field at. any desired point is obvious, and the facility with which this desired end is accomplished, is both simple and eectual. Y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The alternate long and short panels, so arranged that the adjustable braceg will bind two long and one short panel together, in combination with Vthe long bars e e, as Vand for thepurpose set forth and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I apx my signature in" presence of two witnesses.
, LEWIS P. PEASE. Witnesses:
LEVI Thorns,
I. W. DUNCAN.
