TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CON CERN :l
Be it known that I, JMES C. IDEN, of Buckingham township, Bucks county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new vand useful Improvement in Fastenings for Thief-Proof Pocketsq Travelling-Bags,Portemonnaies, and other articles of a similar nature; and I do hereby declare that the following-is a. full and exact description of the construction and operation of thelsame, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and to' the letters of reference marked thereon, in which drawings-'- Figure 2, a. vertical section of a porti-on of the same enlarged, taken through the fastening, and showing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clasp, opened, such as is generally attached to portemonnaies, Snc.
the latter in the position -it occupies when the clasp is fastened.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my -inventionpI will=proceed to describe its construction land mode of operation.
In the drawings, A A form `the/clasp. B is the ordinary hooked hasp; C, the/ordinary spring, hywhich the hasp B is caught and held when the parts A A of the clasp are closed. D is the thumb-piece. for disenlgaging the spring C. It passes through anV aperture in the clasp, and is attached to spring C in theordinary manner. v I forma. vertical slot, m, in the thumb-piece D, into which slot, I insert one end of the catchlE, passl ing a rivet, e, through piece D, and through an eye in catch E. uA slight indentation, G, is formedjin the clasp, `which indentation the free end of the 'catch E is intended to be pressed into when the clasp is closed.
When it is desired to unfasten'the clasp, the end ot' catch E is pressed out of the indentation withthe' thumb and finger, and the thumb-piece D pressed down until the springis disengaged.
Having thus described my invention, I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patentv The catch E, in combination with the thumb-piece D, "spring C, vclasp A' A", with the indentationl G- therein,
,and hasp B, substantially as set forth, for the purpose specified.
