PATENTED APR. 25, 1905.

RAZOR HANDLE.
APPLIOATION PILD sPT.2.19o4.
Patented April 25, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT W. SLEVIN, OF MILVVAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
RAZOF-'HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,437, dated April 25, 1905.
Application filed September 2, 1904.. Serial No. 223,114.
To r/,ZZ 7071,07, it' may crmcrn:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. SLEVIN, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of VVisconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Razor- I-Iandles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of a razor embodying by invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, and Figs. 3 and 4 are respcctively transverse sectional views of the same on the lines 3 3 and 4 4 of Fig. 1.
The object of my invention has been to provide a razor-handle in which the blade shall be prevented from losing its sharpness by imperceptible rusting, which usually occurs, whereby much of the usual sharpening of the blade shall be rendered unnecessary, and in which the blade shall be rendered antiseptic; and to such ends my invention consists in the razor-handle hereinafter specified.
In carrying my invention into practice I provide a handle consisting of side pieces A, between which is pivoted a blade B, which may be of any desired construction. In each side A of the handle a recess a is formed, the recess forming a sharp shoulder (0/ near the upper edge of the handle side. The recesses are formed along the portions of the handle sides A where the blade of the razor will be when the razor is closed. A pad of felt or other absorbent material C is placed in each recess a, 'the ends of the pads nearest the pivot of the blade being preferablyseparated by a washer D, a rivet E passing through the handle sides, pads, and the Washer, and thus securing these parts in place. At the opposite ends of the handle the recesses are preferably reduced in size. and the pads are secured in said reduced portions by a rivet passing through the handle sides and pads. A cap' F of ordinary construction is secured on this end of the handle. The felt pads are preferably saturated with any rust-preventing antiseptic substance, as an antiseptic oil, and the pads are so shaped as to fit closely against the sides of the blade When the razor is closed.
I have found that razors are not ordinarily dulled by use on the face so much as by an imperceptible rusting which occurs within a short time after a razor has been apparently Wiped dry. This rusting dulls the razor. requiring its resharpening and causing it to cut in a rough uncomfortable manner when it is next used. By the use of an antiseptic as well as a rustingpreventive substance I not only keep the razor sharp, but render it antiseptic. It will thus be seen that my improvement greatly reduces the inconvenience of using a razor.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a razor, a handle provided. with absorbent surfaces with which the blade is adapted to contact when the razor is closed.
2. In a razor, the combination of a handle and absorbent pads secured upon the opposing surfaces of the recess in said handle.
3. In a razor, the combination with a handle whose sides are provided with recesses, of absorbent pads secured to the opposing surfaces of said handle sides.
4. In a razor,'the combination of a handle having sides that are provided with recesses in their opposing surfaces, and felt pads secured in said recesses, said pads' being kept separate by a Washer interposed therebetween, and a rivet passing through said handle sides, pads and washer.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
ALBERT VV. SLEVIN.
