Description

- J. LANE.
Plow Point.
No. 80,139. -Patented July 21, I868.

Letters Patent No. 80,189, dated July 21, 1868; antedateol lVIarch 31, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS.
, digs fitlgebule nhmh hr in tlgest aim fitter: mm making urt at the same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I
Be it known that I, JOHN LAM of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare and make known that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the aeeompanyingdrawings, and the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, whichv form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the particular form and construction of the removable slip plowpoint, the combining therewith a fin-cutter, and the arrangement of share, land-side, and slip-point, secured together, as hereinafter shown.
The object of my invention is the production of the plow in a simple and substantial construction, the share a plain sharpened blank,,the point arranged to be renewed at small expense, and the share, land-side, and point secured together without welding.
Referring to the drawings like letters in the different figures refer to like parts.
A is the removable slip-point. Figure 1 gives a furrow-side view, showing the arrangement of the flanges, a and a, made on the side of the slip-point, and so arranged as to form an open, tapering, dove-tail'matrix, as shown, the edges of the flanges .being nearer together than is their base, forming a dove-tail, and the matrix gradually tapering as the flanges approaching each other as they approach towards the forward end of the point, where they unite, and with the face, I), extend projecting forward, forming a projection to receive the brunt of wear.
I sometimes make the slip-point with the ,flange c extending only a portion of the way back from the forward end, sufiicient to underlap but a portion of the share, and the point is secured to the plow bya bolt through the face 6.
I sometimes make a tin-cutter, B, on the top of the slip-point, as shown in Figures 2'and 6.
C is the'share. Dis the land-side or foundation-block, having a flange, E, resting under theshare, as shown in Figure 3. The share 0 and flange E are secured together by a belt at d.
The land-side D, I sometimes make as a coupling-block, which mayor may not extend back to the back end of landside-facing which I sometimes use. i
I also sometimes extend the flange E up under the mould-board to the beam, forming a standard.
Figures 5 and 6 are views, showing the share C bolted to the flange E, with a bolt at d, the slip-point attached and secured by a bolt at e, the flange a resting on the top 'of' the share, and the llange c underlapping the point of the land-side or block D. i
What I claim, and/desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Forming a' dove-tail, tapering, Open-groove matrix on the side of a removable slip plow-point, substantially as described, and for the purpose shown.
'2. The particular form and construction of the slip-point, as arranged and described, and for the purpose shown.
3. Forming and constructing a slip-point, as shown and described, and claimed above, with a fin-cutter, as arranged and shown. 4
4. The particular arrangement of the'share C, fiangcE, and land-side D, as shown, in combination with the above-described and..abovc-elaimcd slip'point, either with or without the fin-cutter, as described, and for the purpose shown.
JOHN LANE.
Witnesses:
