IMPROVEMENT IN PADS FOB HORSES HOOFS.-
TO ALL PERSONSTQ WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. Wnnnnnu., of Attleboro, in the county of Bristol, and State of Massachu-V setts, have invented an ImprovedV Elastic HeeLCushon for the Hoof of a. Horse; and I do vhereby declare the seme to be fully described in the following| specicotion, and represented in the nccompnnying drawings, o which V i i i Figure l is a. top view,

The cushion in question consists of s long strip or wedge, A, .of India. rubber, provided with two lips or flanges, ,a b, one being arranged to extend down, und the other t project upward from it, nt its heel'snd opposite sides thereof, in mannen as represent/ed in the drawings.
When the cushion is appliedto s hoof, between the sole of the hoof and the metallic horse'shoe, the nngo a rests againstv the side of the hoof, -nnd the snge b rests against the inner edge of theshoe, the whole being ne represented in figs. 4 and 5, in which H denotes the hoof, and S the shoe, and A A a pair of the cushions.
The two flanges, a b, by bearing against the hoof and shoe, serve eiectunlly in keeping the body of the cushion in place, and render it unnecessary to fix cloth or canvas to the cushion, in order to prevent it tearing away from the nails. Y 1
I do not claim the combination' of an elastic cushion with the hoof and shoe of n horse, such cushion being arranged between the two, and held iu place by the nails fof fixing the shoe to the hoof, suclfnailjbeing driven through' the cushion.V
Nor do I claim a cushion as made with a. Bunge or with anges, to rest against the inner edge of the i shoe only. f
I claim my improved elastic heel-cushion, as niade with the two flanges a b, arranged und combined with its body, u'nd for use, substantially es specified.
