IMPROVEMENT IN LIQUID-MEASURES.
flilge fiztthnlt match a in time 32min fittest me making part at flge same.
TO ALII'WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WARD 'SPRAGUE, of Sandy Creelz, in the county of Oswego, and State of New York, ii ave invented a new and improved LiquidMeasure; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference heing had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. I
This invention is designed to obviate the diificulty attending the measuring, in cold weather, of thick, viscid liquids, such, for instance, as molasses, sirups, &c., &c.; and to this end the invention consists in constructing the measure with double walls, with a space allowed between to receive water or other suitable fluid, which, by placing the measure on a stove, is keptwarm, and whenever the measure is used the heat radiated from the walls of the measure will render the contents of the samesufiiciently fluid to flow readily.
The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my invention.
- A is the measure, which may be constructed in the usual or in any proper form, but made with double walls, a a, and a double bottom, b b, a space, 0, 'being allowed'between to receive or hold water, or any suitable liquid. The top of the space c is closed, and provided with a nozzle, d, and stopper.
The measure maybe constructed of copper, tinned plate, or any-suitable material, and by being-placed upon a stove the water will become warm andthe measure kept ready for use at any time, the heat radiated from the walls of the measure rendering the sirup, molasses, or other substance drawn into the measure sufliciently fluid to admit of it being readily poured out without adhering to the bottom and side of the measure. The invention is more especially designed for the use; of retail grocers who sell sirups, molasses, &c., in
small quantities, the measuring of which is attended with considerable annoyance in cold weather.
By my improvement, the difliculty attending the measuring-out of, the above-named substances is entirely avoided, as the measure may be kepton the stove or other heat-difl'using apparatus oft the store, and therefore always be in readiness for use.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The liquid-measure, constructed with the walls a a and fluid-chamber a, all constructed as and for the purpose described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 13th day of April, 1868.
- WARD SPRAGUE.
