TO ALL WHO IT MAY CONCERN:

v Be it known that l', B.,F. DAY, of East Freedom, in the county of Blair, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Automatic Fly-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 isla side elevation of my'invention. i i

The part C is a hollow column, containing any suitable train of wheel-work, actuated by a spiral spring, as indicated by the red outlines. l Y

An upper shaft from the wheel-mechanism projects laterally'through the column C, and is'provided with two crank-wheels, a a, 'to which are connected the rodsb b, bearing cross-pieces, c c c, die., from which latter are -suspended the feather-brushes d d, &c.,.or any other suitable devices for acting as fly-brushes.

The free'ends ofthe r'ods play loosely through holes in the cross-bar g aiiixed to the iiprights B, as shown. fis the endof the spring-arbor, it being located at an openingin the column C, so thatt-he machine may be wound up with an ordinary clock-key.

i When wound up, this machine will run noiselessly fcrseveral hours, and act as an automatic ily-brushing apparatus.

Having thus'described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rods b, carrying brushes d, when pivoted at one end eccentrically to the wheel a, which are adapted to be retutedautomatically, said rods working in -guidesg, all substantially as herein show-nenti described, whereby both horizontal'and vertical reciprocating motion is imparted to the brushcar riers, as set forth.
