To all whom it ma/y concern:

. Be it known that I, O. D. READ, of Burlington, in the county of Chittenden, and in the State of Vermont, have `invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference .being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My inventionis intended as an improvement on the patent granted to me, July 2, 1867, for bed-bottom, and consists in the general arrangement of the parts constituting the bed-bottom.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will vnow proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring t0.the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation, and

Y Figure 2 is a horizontal section, showing the under side of the bed-Slat.

.Figure 3 represents a. cross-section of one of the springs and slats of the bedbottom, showing a groove l in the rails A and C.

A represents the bottom of the bed on which is placed the conical, helical spring B, secured to the bottom, A,

l by means of staples a a, as seen in fig. l.

On top of the spring B rests the bed-Slat C, said slat` being, on its under side, provided with a circular groove or recess, in which the upper end of the spring is inserted. The sides of this groove or recess are perpendicular, as may be seen in fig. 2.

Across the slat C is placed a band, D, fastened to the slat by tacks b b, andthe ends fastened on to hooks d d, secured to the bottom A, one on each side of the spring B.
