  • the emulsion reservoir 16 is located on one side of the bitumen hopper 13.
  • the four reservoirs mentioned above are connected by means of pipe work, to an operating head 17 at the front of the vehicle and shown in detail in Figure 5.
  • FIG. 1 and Figure 2 show three pipes extending from the operating head to the rear of the vehicle.
  • One of these pipes 18 is connected with the bitumen mix hopper, while another of these pipes 19 is connected with the emulsion reservoir 16.
  • the remaining pipe 20 is connected with the debris hopper 15 via pneumatic suction system 21 and air separator 22.
  • a screw or pump conveyor is shown at the bottom of the bitumen hopper 13.
  • An air receiver 24, for the pneumatic suction system 21, is shown on the side of the bitumen hopper which is opposite to that on which the emulsion reservoir is located.
  • the operating head is shown having a cross shaped configuration 25 with a mill saw 26 located at its centre. To the left and right sides of the mill saw 26 are located the end 27 of the pipe 18 to the bitumen mix hopper and a tamper or roll 28. The suction outlet end 29 of the pipe 20 to the debris hopper is positioned in front of the mill saw 26 and the outlet 30 of the pipe 19 to the emulsion reservoir 16 is located at the back of the mill saw 26. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the operating head 17 is connected to the front of the truck 12 by means of an hydraulic arm 31.
  • a pothole First of all a pothole is approached, its position can be anywhere across the front of the vehicle and of any size. The operator of the vehicle then identifies the hole, stabilizes his vehicle and decides the best way to repair it to a standard size, either round, square or rectangular. A round hole shape is generally preferred.
  • Controls inside the truck are used to manoeuvre the operating head by operation of hydraulic arm 31, over the pothole, such that the mill saw 26 is located directly above it. Once in position the mill saw is operated to cut the pothole to the desired shape and depth.
  • the pneumatic suction pipe outlet 30 is indexed above the hole next and debris is removed by operating the pneumatic suction pipe to suck debris to the debris hopper 11.
  • bitumen pipe is indexed over the hole and bitumen mix is pumped into the hole from the bitumen hopper 13.
  • the final step in the sequence is to index the tamper or roll 28 above the hole to press the bitumen mix.
  • a finish may be added to the repairing operation by pumping fine gravel from hopper 14 through the bitumen pump outlet if this is considered necessary.

Abstract

L'appareil décrit, qui sert à la réparation de nids-de-poule dans une chaussée comprend: un véhicule portant une trémie pour mélange de bitume (13), une trémie pour gravillons (14), une trémie pour débris (15) et un réservoir pour émulsion (16). Les quatre réservoirs mentionnés sont reliés par une tuyauterie à une tête d'exploitation (17) située à l'avant du véhicule. La tête d'exploitation comporte une configuration en section transversale composée d'une scie mécanique (26), qui est disposée en son centre, et de l'extrémité (27) du tuyau conduisant à la trémie pour mélange de bitume (13) et d'un bourroir ou rouleau (28), lesquels sont disposés du côté gauche et du côté droit de la scie mécanique (26). L'extrémité de sortie d'aspiration (29) du tuyau conduisant à la trémie pour débris est placée à l'avant de la scie mécanique (26) et la sortie (30) du tuyau conduisant au réservoir pour émulsion est située à l'arrière de la scie mécanique (26).
