Abstract

The purpose of the invention is to facilitate the transport, storage, and the use of a personal computer in a car. Thanks to the holder, the computer can be kept in a safe place, where it can be accessed easily whenever needed. The technical realization of the holder is based on a telescopic arm, which is equipped with a hinged joint. This allows the computer to always be within easy reach. The holder can be neatly folded in a small place, when the computer is not in use. The holder is fastened to the car floor with an L-mount, whereafter the holder is ready for use.

Description

A collapsible holder for a portable computer used in a car
The invention as claimed in the preamble of Claim 1, concerns a telescopically collapsible holder, which is equipped with a hinged joint.
Portable computers are becoming more and more popular, and they are often carried along in the car. Inside the car the computer is usually kept on the seat or floor, where it is in passengers' way. There seems to be no appropriate storage place for a portable computer inside the car, especially if the computer needs to be accessed fast and easily. With the aid of a holder it is easy to recharge the portable computer during driving, since the holder keeps the computer securely in place.
The purpose of the holder is to correct the previously mentioned drawbacks. It also has other advantages: The computer is always neatly kept on the holder. It is easy to fasten it to the holder, where it is not in anyone's way. The telescopic arm can be pulled out, bringing the computer within easy reach. Both securing the computer to and releasing it from the holder is fast and easy. In addition, with the help of the holder, the computer can be easily connected to a mobile telephone, since the holder is close enough to the phone and the user.
More precisely stated, the invention carries the characteristics presented in the characterizing portion of Claim 1.
The following is a detailed description of the invention with references to the enclosed drawing, which illustrates a holder described above.
The body (l) of the holder consists of a rectangular steel streamline tubing. There is a locking mechanism (2) at one end of the tube, which allows the inner tube (3) to be locked into place. The purpose of the locking system is to prevent the holder from moving freely up and down during use. When not in use, the tubes (3) and (5) , which are connected by a hinged joint (4) , collapse inside the body (1) .
The hinged joint (4) is made of two parts, one of which contains a groove, the other one a protruding part matching the groove. The parts of the joint are linked together with a pin. The flags of the hinged joint are the same dimension as the inside of the tubes. The flags go slightly inside the tubes, whereafter they are fastened to the tubes with pegs. The swing of the hinged joint is 180 degrees.
The tube (5) is fastened to the tray (7) intended for holding the computer with a fastening mechanism (6) . The fastening mechanism (6) consists of two disc-shaped elements (6a and 6b) , which have a hole in the middle for a fastener. The fastening mechanism (6b) is fixed to the tube (5) and the fastening mechanism (6a) is fixed to the tray (7) . The fastening mechanisms (6a and 6b) are fixed to each other through a hole with a fastener. The fastening mechanism (6a) is characterized by its ability to rotate horizontally 360 degrees around the tube (5) , if necessary.
The body (1) is fastened to an L-mount (8) by a screw and a bolt (9) . The L-mount (8) is secured to the car floor with four fasteners.
The invention allows slightly different solutions than the ones mentioned above. Thus, for example, the locking system in the body (1) can also be achieved by threading and external press sleeves as well as with a clamping device. The fastening mechanism (6) of the computer tray can also be carried out in various ways. It should be noted that the invention allows bellows-like tubes to be used as the telescopically collapsible component. It follows that the functioning principle, shape and material can be slightly different than the ones described above.
