Abstract

The present invention relates to novel immunophilin proteins predominently expressed by T-cells, belonging to the FKBP class, capable of binding to FK-506 (or its analogs) and to rapamycin, inhibiting calcineurin phosphatase activity when bound to ligand, and whose mRNA is induced by glucocorticoids (e.g. dexamethazone). These proteins have a peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase activity. Also included in the invention are the nucleic acids coding for said immunophilins, antibodies against these immunophilins and uses therefore, for instance in the identification/screening of compounds useful as immunosuppressive agents.
