Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for monitoring the pulse, in particular of small children.
- a device for monitoring the pulse in particular of small children.
- Such a device can optionally also be used to help prevent sudden child death.
- the heart of the device the pulse measuring device itself, is attached to the body parts suitable for measuring the pulse, in particular in such a way that the person - who may also be a bedridden or convalescent, older person - cannot remove this measuring device or the measuring device as such does not perceive it as disturbing and therefore does not perceive it if possible.
- the pulse monitor can be integrated into a sock to measure a baby's pulse rate.
- it can be fixed in the sock by means of Velcro strips or it can also be inserted into a small pocket that is knitted, for example, integrated with the sock.
- Means should be provided which prevent the baby from pulling the socks off their feet, or those which are intended to prevent the pulse measuring device from being removed from a correct position which ensures a correct measurement of the pulse or can go crazy.
- the socks can be provided with a band which is pulled through a passage provided at the open end of the sock.
- the sock can, however, also be provided with a particularly wide, elastic strip, which is provided at least in the area provided for receiving the pulse measuring device.
- the integration of the pulse measuring device into an earring, which is hung or clipped in or on an earlobe, is particularly suitable for somewhat larger children or adults.
- the person whose pulse is to be monitored is thus prevented from removing the device, monitoring of the pulse is guaranteed.
- the signals from the pulse measuring device are either passed directly or via an intermediate station to a processing and reading unit.
- an intermediate station either - preferably removable - at the foot of the child's or patient's bed or in the garden, or - if necessary also permanently installed - on a room wall, etc., so that the person whose pulse is to be monitored , a certain freedom of movement is made possible.
- the processing and reading unit will advantageously be integrated in a mobile system which can be connected to one or more base units which certain locations determined by the living conditions of the person to be monitored, for example in the apartment or in a car.
- the batteries of the mobile system can be charged in these base units while the mobile system is connected to the power supply or is being supplied by replacement batteries.
- Deviations in the measured pulse rates which are intended to cause a reaction and possibly a specific action by the person monitoring, are brought to his attention in any case by displaying the respective deviation via the read-out unit, but preferably additionally a corresponding optical and / or acoustic signal.
- deviations are compared with reference values available in the processing unit. These reference values are either manually entered “normal values” or measured values obtained via the pulse measuring device under so-called “normal conditions” with a preselectable range given by the person to be monitored and their state of health, thus defining certain minimum and maximum values.
- the manual input of activity described also has its disadvantages: if, for example, the heart rate of a sleeping child is turned off, the device gives an immediate alarm if the child wakes up and becomes restless in between, because then his pulse rate is the maximum limit for the sleep state is still permissible, will surely exceed. The result is a false alarm.
- a sensor can be provided, by means of which the child's movement status can be recognized. This sensor sends its signal to the processing unit, which then automatically switches to the reference values corresponding to the new conditions.
- a possible embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in FIG. 1.
- the signal obtained via a pulse measuring device 11 is forwarded via a transmitter 12 to an intermediate station functioning as a receiver 30.
- the pulse measuring device 11, the transmitter 12 and the battery 13 are integrated in a small device which can be accommodated inconspicuously in a baby sock or in an earring. Signals that become available via a motion sensor 20 are fed to the intermediate receiver 30.
- the processing unit 40 has a signal lamp 41 which lights up shortly before the batteries of the pulse measuring device 11 are used up.
- Accumulators 46 can be recharged by connecting the connections 47 to a socket provided on a base unit 50.
- the movement state of the person whose pulse is to be measured can either be entered manually via an input 45 or automatically by means of the signal of the movement sensor 20 which is passed to an input 44 via the intermediate receiver 30 selected, which are then compared with the measured pulse rates in a comparator 42. If the values obtained via the pulse measuring device 11 are not in the “permitted” range of the reference values, a signal signaling the deviation is sent to an alarm generator 60.
- the measured pulse rate and a display identifying the respective state of movement of the person whose pulse rate is being measured can be shown on the display of a read-out unit 70.
