Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sheet of roof- covering material, comprising a layer of bituminous material.
- Such a sheet of roof-covering material is generally known.
- bituminous roof-coverings With the known bituminous roof-coverings the roof- covering is always provided with a bituminous covering layer.
- bituminous roof-coverings have the drawback, that the bituminous covering layer is subject in a large extent to ageing as a result of its being exposed to ultraviolet radiation and heat.
- a further drawback of these roof-coverings is that they have a rather large thickness, about 5 mm, and for this reason are also environmentally harmful, while they have a width of only 1 meter.
- Applying these roof- coverings to a roof plane is rather complicated, and comprises among other things the heating of the bitumen in order to attach the roof-covering to the roof plane by means of molten bitumen. Further, the possibilities to vary the exterior appearance of the upper side of the roof-covering are limited. Onto the covering layer a layer of flint chips may be applied, but it is virtually impossible and very expensive to colour the bituminous covering layer itself.
- a plastic foil for instance a PVC or EPDM foil.
- a sheet of roof-covering material is rolled out onto the roof plane, and is attached mechanically by means of screws and washer plates, after which the sheets are connected to each other by means of welding or glueing, and whereby the foil constitutes the completed roof-covering.
- a PVC foil at the bottom side with a porous layer of for instance glass fibres or polyester fleece, which layer is disposed between the roof plane and the foil when the roof-covering is completed.
- This PVC-foil may have different colours.
- roof-coverings when compared with the bituminous roof-coverings, provide the advantage that they have a smaller thickness and have a larger width. Further they can be applied to the roofplane without the need of heating bitumen.
- the present invention aims to provide a sheet of roof- covering material, that does not have the drawbacks described above.
- the sheet of roof-covering material according to the invention thereto is characterized, in that onto a bituminous base layer (modified or not modified with SBS, SEBS, APP, etc.) a covering layer is provided which is formed by a fabric, more in particular a glass fabric, or a carbon fabric (of for instance aramide fibres).
- a bituminous base layer modified or not modified with SBS, SEBS, APP, etc.
- a covering layer is provided which is formed by a fabric, more in particular a glass fabric, or a carbon fabric (of for instance aramide fibres).
- the bituminous sealing layer disposed underneath the covering layer is protected against ageing as a result of ultraviolet radiation and heat.
- the fabric or fabric mat thereto in a favourable manner is woven very tightly in order not to allow harmful ultraviolet radiation to pass through which may cause the underly- ing bituminous layer to age.
- the covering layer formed by the fabric mat further allows the roof-covering material to be mechanically fastened to a roof construction.
- the covering layer is impregnated and/or at one or both sides provided with a coating, such that the covering layer is liquid and/or vapour tight.
- the impregnating agent and/or the coating is wear-resistant and/or non-inflammable and/or resistant to ultraviolet radiation, and is formed by for instance colloidal silicon, a silicate composition, such as sodium silicate, or a melamine-formaldehyde resin. Every other agent that is suitable to provide the covering layer with these qualities may however be used.
- the sheet of roof-covering material according to the invention further is characterized, in that the cove- ring layer is impregnated by or is provided with a paint layer or a paint coating, which coating is resistant to ageing by ultraviolet radiation.
- the paintcoating is wear-resistant, so that it is durable resistant against for instance walking on the roof-cov ⁇ ering.
- the paint- coating is formed by a non-inflammable material. In this manner it can be prevented, that when the sheet of roof-covering material is applied to a roof while making use of an open flame, with which the bottom side of the sheet is treated in the overlap, the upper side of an adjacent sheet, which is exposed to weather conditions, is damaged by accidental contact with the flame.
- the sheet of roof-covering material according to the invention it is possible to use a bituminous layer with a relatively small thickness, about 1,5 mm, and of a large width.
- the small thickness and the application of a bituminous material render this roof-covering material less environmentally harmful than the ca 5 mm thick butimunous roofing sheets or the PVC roofing sheets.
- the material can be fastened mechanically to a roof. Further the combination of the glass fibres or the carbon fibres (for instance aramide fibres) with bitumen shows no signs of shrinkage on the roof. It is further possible to provide the covering layer with any colour by means of for instance a fibre that has been impregnated, painted or coated with a colourant.
- the base layer of the sheet of roof-covering material may be provided at its bottom side with a porous layer, more in particular of glass fibres or glass fibre fleece, and by means of which moisture that has been contained between the sheet and the roof plane can spread and evaporate.
- the base layer at its bottom side is provided with an anti-stick layer or -foil, such as a silicone layer, a plastic foil. Teflon or a siliconated foil, to prevent adherence under the influence of solar radiation and to thereby prevent the formation of tears from out of the foundation base in the material.
- an anti-stick layer or -foil such as a silicone layer, a plastic foil. Teflon or a siliconated foil, to prevent adherence under the influence of solar radiation and to thereby prevent the formation of tears from out of the foundation base in the material.
- an adhesive strip is provided along one or more edges of the sheet on top of the covering layer, by means of which the sheet at its upper side can be connected to the bottom side of the base layer of an adjoining adjacent sheet of roof-covering material.
- an adhesive strip formed for instance by bitumen (modified or not modified) or formed by a self- adhesive sticking strip (for instance Hot-melt) the roof-covering can be applied to a roof plane in a simple manner.
- the sheet of roof- covering material is provided with a seperating layer which is disposed between the base layer and the cove ⁇ ring layer, which seperating layer is provided with apertures, through which apertures the base layer is firmly connected to the covering layer.
- the seperating layer may be formed by a foil, for instance a plastic foil, or by paper. Further, in between the layers a further reinforcement layer or a reinforcement net may be provided, formed by a fleece or fabric mat or an interweaving, also having apertu ⁇ res through which the base layer is firmly connected to the covering layer. In this manner the covering layer and the base layer outside of the area of the apertures in the seperating layer, and/or the reinfor- cement layer, which form the connections between the covering layer and the base layer, lie loose from one another and can move or glide with respect to each other.
- FIG 1 a cross section is shown of two adjacent disposed sheets of roof-covering material A and B, which overlap near the edges, formed by a base layer 1 of bituminous material, onto which a covering layer 2 formed by a fabric, in this example a glass fabric, is provided.
- the glass fabric 2 is in a favourable manner woven very tightly in order not to allow harmful ultraviolet radiation to pass through which may cause the underlying bituminous layer 1 to age.
- the fabric 2 can be provided with a watertight coating, not shown in the drawing, and can be dyed in any colour.
- an adhesive strip 4 is provided, in this exam- pie of an embodiment formed by a self-adhesive Hot- melt, covered by a detachable sheet 5, for instance siliconated paper, and by means of which adhesive strip 4 the base layer 1 of the adjoining sheet B is attached on to the covering layer 2 of the sheet A.
- a washer plate or washer strip 6 may be pre ⁇ sent, in this example of an embodiment disposed between the covering layer 2 and the adhesive strip 4.
- Figure 2 shows another embodiment, in which between the base layer 1 and the covering layer 2 a seperating layer 7 is provided, provided with apertures 8, through which a firm bituminous connection is established between the base layer 1 and the covering layer 2.
- a seperating layer 7 is provided, provided with apertures 8, through which a firm bituminous connection is established between the base layer 1 and the covering layer 2.
- the covering layer 2 and the base layer 1 in this way lie loose from one another and can move or glide with respect to one another.
