Abstract
Cette invention se rapporte à un processus de décomposition d'une matière sélectionnée parmi des composés organiques halogénés en composés qui sont acceptables d'un point de vue écologique ou qui peuvent subir une dégradation supplémentaire par des systèmes de destruction des déchets classiques en vue de la transformation en produits acceptables d'un point de vue écologique. Ledit procédé consiste: (a) à transporter une solution aqueuse ou une boue aqueuse de ladite matière dans une zone de réaction susceptible de résister aux températures et aux pressions de décomposition de la matière; (b) à mettre en contact la matière de la zone de réaction avec, en tant que réactif, un carbonate de sodium aqueux en quantité suffisante pour décomposer la matière dans des conditions d'oxydation hydrothermiques à une température comprise entre 300 et 600 °C et à une pression comprise approximativement entre 10 et 400 atmosphères pendant 0,01 à 120 min, ledit réactif spécifique, un carbonate du type carbonate de sodium, étant présent, dans les conditions de réaction, à environ 10 % ou moins sous forme de sel soluble dans l'eau, de solubilité comparable à la solubilité du sel dans des conditions ambiantes, ledit réactif spécifique étant principalement présent sous forme solide, l'oxydation ayant lieu dans des conditions hétérogènes, et ledit processus se produisant en présence d'un oxydant gazeux présent en une quantité représentant approximativement de 0,01 à 50 % en poids de la matière; (c) à décomposer la matière à 99 % ou plus, ou à la transformer à 99 % ou plus en composés qui sont acceptables d'un point de vue écologique ou qui peuvent subir une dégradation supplémentaire; et (d) à effectuer éventuellement la dégradation des composés produits au cours de l'étape (c) en produits acceptables d'un point de vue écologique. De préférence, le réactif spécifique est du carbonate de sodium et l'oxydant est de l'oxygène ou de l'air. De préférence, le composé organique halogéné est sélectionné dans le groupe constitué par des composés polychlorobiphényle, polybromobiphényle, monochlorobenzodioxine et polychlorobenzodioxine.
