  • Blemishes such as fine lines, wrinkles, liver spots, and acne scarring that consist of perturbations in the skin surface are commonly regarded as unsightly, and various cosmetic treatments have been proposed to remedy them.
  • Foundation creams are often used. These are tinted and can help to mask discolouration that may be associated with such blemishes, but they are less successful if they are applied more thickly to fill and smooth over skin perturbations because the foundation layer is likely to crack, and the extra depth of pigment filling a perturbation can make it darker and more prominent, producing a "graining effect".
  • An object of the present invention is to provide a treatment which overcomes the aforesaid problems with foundation creams and allows a substantially optically smooth finish to be achieved with blemishes. The whole skin surface can then be treated with foundation products without particular attention having to be paid to the blemished area.
  • a method of treatment consists in applying a material to skin blemishes or perturbations so as to smooth them over.
  • Said material is preferably flexible to resist cracking once applied, is substantially non-pigmented, and is non-reactive to other cosmetic products so as to allow the latter to be applied over the top and produce a desired smooth surface finish.
