Definitions
- the present invention relates to a control unit for vehicles comprising a key pad for control of a central unit separate from the key pad.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a solution to these and other associated problems.
- the invention is characterized in that the central unit can be programmed by means of the key pad and thereafter, upon a certain coded signal from the key pad, enables operation of the vehicle, and in that it comprises a timer connected to the central unit allowing a certain maximum time to be set for operation of the vehicle, e.g. for hire vehicles, which time can also be set by means of the key pad, and if the time is exceeded the coded signal is deleted so that the vehicle can no longer be driven.
- the unit also comprises an alarm unit to give warning if an attempt is made at misappropriation of the vehicle, such as an attempt to bypass the ignition switch.
- a certain code must always be entered on the key pad to enable operation of the vehicle, and it is no use bypassing the inaccessibly placed central unit, since the vehicle cannot be started without going via this unit. Any attempt to misappropriate the vehicle will set off the alarm, e.g. an attempt to bypass the ignition switch.
- the purpose of the timer is to enable a certain period of hire or use to be set for a vehicle, thereby preventing unauthorised use of a hired vehicle past the agreed time. If the vehicle is towed away it cannot be used after this time even if, for some reason, the code on the key pad is known. In such cases the car can only be used by someone who has access to a certain factory code, e.g. the car-hire firm.
- the timer can only be operated using the above-mentioned key pad.
- a radio transmitter is connected to the supply lead for triggering the alarm, in parallel with the ordinary alarm unit, for wireless transmission of signals to a separate receiver with connected alarm unit, for the purpose of also raising the alarm at a place separate from the vehicle, such as the owner's home or work place, or a security company.
- the receiver with its alarm device can thus be placed separate from the vehicle and the alarm still be observed.
- a telephone may even be connected to the receiver to pass on the alarm signal to a desired place.
- the alarm can thus also be used to wake up a person who is asleep.
- the alarm can also be heard in noisy environments such as in a town, close to an airport, on industrial premises, etc.
- Figure 1 shows a detailed circuit diagram of the key pad and its connection to the central unit.
- Figure 4 shows a view of the preferred embodiment mentioned above.
- Figure 1 shows the central unit at (1).
- (4) is the starting motor and, after a correctly coded input signal (10), start of the vehicle is enabled via a relay (9).
- (8) is the original connection to the starting motor.
- a signal goes via the lead (5) to the unit (1) and an alarm is connected up at (2).
- (3) is a bonnet lock which can be actuated via the unit following the correct input signal.
- (6) is the original cable to the starting motor and (7) is the new supply to the ignition coil via the unit (1).
- a timer (16) is connected to the central unit. Programming signals are sent via the key pad (at 10) to a processor arranged therein and the coded signal to start the vehicle is sent via the same key pad (14). The desired time of use is set by means of the timer (16) and this can also be done via the key pad (14). The timer (16) may also be included in the central unit (1) and the programming signals to this are sent via (10).
- FIG 2 shows the central unit (1) to which the key pad (14) is connected via (10) for coding of the signals.
- A shows leads (except the invention)
- B shows leads from an electronics box
- C leads from an assembly set and D accessories or existing equipment.
- the bonnet lock (3) need not necessarily be included in the object according to the invention.
- (2) is a signal horn connected to the alarm. However, the alarm may also be produced via the ordinary signal horn (15) via relay (12).
- (11) is the start motor which is connected via the unit (1) via a relay (9).
- (5) is the alarm lead for triggering the alarm (see Figure 1).
- (13) is the fuel pump which, like the starting motor (11), can be connected via the unit.
- (17) is an ordinary main switch.
- the timer connected to the central unit (1) is shown at (16).
- the key pad (14) is coded and signals pass via (10) to the central unit (1), thus enabling operation of the vehicle via relay (9).
- the fuel pump can also be connected in a similar manner, as also the timer (16).
- Figure 3 shows a more detailed view of the key pad (14) and its connection to the central unit (1).
- Figure 4 shows a device according to the previous figures, but with the addition of a transmitter (17) connected to the alarm lead to the ordinary signal horn (2) (or another alarm member) for wireless transmission of radio signals to a separate receiver (18) with its own alarm unit (19).
