Abstract

The invention provides a device for recording, electronically processing and transmitting, via a telecommunication system, optical information, for instance an image of a person, which device comprises: a camera; video means for converting an image detected by the camera into a signal format suitable for said transmission, optionally with addition of additional information to be added to the image such as text or sound, which sound is converted into said signal format via microphone and audio means, all of this such that a message for transmitting is formed; transmitting means for entering the telecommunication system and transmitting the message; and payment means for setting the device into operation and transmitting the message; and optional printing means for printing at least the image and optionally the visual part of the whole message.

Description

DEVICE FOR TRANSMITTING A VISUAL MESSAGE
The invention provides a device for recording, electronically processing and transmitting, via a telecommunication system, optical information, for instance an image of a person, which device comprises: a camera; video means for converting an image detected by the camera into a signal format suitable for said transmission, optionally with addition of additional information to be added to the image such as text or sound, which sound is converted into said signal format via microphone and audio means, all of this such that a message for transmitting is formed; transmitting means for entering the telecommunication system and transmitting the message; and payment means for setting the device into operation and transmitting the message; and optional printing means for printing at least the image and optionally the visual part of the whole message.
A specific embodiment can be adapted such that a postcard with visual information can be transmitted by electronic means via e-mail, WWW or other communication means . The device can be embodied in the form of a pole.
The camera, at least the lens thereof, can be arranged at a certain height corresponding to that of the average user, while the payment means accessible from outside can be accessed at another position. The payment means can for instance be adapted for payment on the basis of cash, credit cards and the like.
In respect of the desired vandal-proof nature, the device can be sunk into the ground by means of for instance hydraulic motor means. In respect of the desired stand-alone character of the device, it can comprise solar cells which are adapted for charging and keeping in charged state the batteries feeding the electronic components. A practical embodiment has the special feature that the device comprises a GSM receiver or similar transmitting device.
The device according to the invention is a design which makes it possible for tourists and other interested parties at a tourist location in any part of the world to make for instance a digital photo of themselves with the visited location in the background. This photo, which can be regarded as an electronic postcard, can be transmitted electronically by the device, for instance via the e-mail system, to one or more addresses which are inputted via a keyboard. The customer himself can, if desired and insofar as the device permits, also acquire an immediately available copy of the transmitted postcard, or at least the image forming part thereof. Use can be made for this purpose of a printer or a printing system providing immediately available photos .
The device according to the invention is very user- friendly because input of the necessary data, such as a PIN code for payment, an address and the like, does not differ essentially from for instance withdrawal of money from a cash dispenser or payment with a credit card in a shop .
The device is preferably embodied as a relatively wide pole. One pole can also comprise a plurality of devices. There is also the option of a pole in a large embodiment serving as publicity medium for advertisers. Firstly, a pole has space on the rear side of the device for possible arrangement of advertising information. Secondly, the pole can be embodied in the colours of a specific company. Finally, a display screen, advantageously arranged above the keyboard, may be attractive to advertisers, since the screen can display a relevant advertising message during passive periods. The device can be placed at any desired location, provided the set requirements are satisfied relating to electrical energy supply and transmission options. The electrical energy supply can be drawn from a local mains supply but can also be based on solar energy.
Transmission can take place via a local connection to a telephone network but can also take place in cordless manner, for instance via a GSM transmitter.
Since the camera will in most cases be at a fixed height, it may be advantageous to arrange a platform for smaller users, for instance in the form of a foot support arranged fixedly on a pole.

Claims

Device for recording, electronically processing and transmitting, via a telecommunication system, optical information, for instance an image of a person, which device comprises: a camera; video means for converting an image detected by the camera into a signal format suitable for said transmission, optionally with addition of additional information to be added to the image such as text or sound, which sound is converted into said signal format via microphone and audio means, all of this such that a message for transmitting is formed; transmitting means for entering the telecommunication system and transmitting the message; and payment means for setting the device into operation and transmitting the message; and optional printing means for printing at least the image and optionally the visual part of the whole message.
