Abstract

Method and apparatus for printing marks (23) on documents include means for printing specific information (22) on the document in association with the mark. The apparatus is characterised in that it uses a dot matrix printing technique and includes the printing of an additional field (31) with the aforesaid specific information containing the franking data that is encrypted according to an electronic algorithm key that cannot be copied and which is provided exclusively by the aforesaid authorising body. The apparatus is particularly usable in post offices for franking.
