For example, the slicing machine can be stopped when the actual weight is slightly below the desired weight, within a predefined range; or the process can be stopped when the actual weight actually exceeds the desired value. A control strategy may take into account the additional time it may take to stop the slicing machine, so that the total weight as close as possible to the desired value, and taking into account that one or more slices may be cut before the machine actually stops.
- Removable food trays may be used, so that each tray contains a different type of food, each held in a tray with holding means like means 12, 17, 172 illustrated above. Any tray may be mounted in a slicing machine to cut a portion of food for a customer, then the tray is returned to refrigerator or storage, and another tray is mounted.
- controller 3 actually samples the total weight indicative signal at a fast rate, this having the same effect as a continuous check.
