Abstract

L'invention se rapporte à un système et à un procédé de téléphonie et d'accès à des données à grande vitesse sur un réseau d'accès à large bande. Ledit système comporte une unité d'interface réseau (NIU) couplée à une ligne de secours d'un fournisseur de service local (LEC), le réseau d'accès à large bande couplé à l'unité NIU, un point-de-présence intermédiaire (IPOP) couplé au réseau d'accès à large bande, et au moins un réseau d'accès externe couplé au IPOP. L'unité NIU comporte une interface téléphonique à large bande (BTI) qui est couplée à au moins un téléphone. Lorsque le réseau d'accès au réseau à large bande n'est pas disponible, la BTI commute au moins ledit téléphone sur la ligne de secours du LEC.
