Definitions
- the present invention concerns packaging systems including a container body of commercial products generally in doses superior to the monodose, formed of at least two primary walls (front-and back-walls) and possibly of two intermediate walls inserted as gusset between said primary wall edges, with side -, top - and bottom - seals, and of a device for the easy opening and sure reclosure of the packaging for and after each dose extraction .
- the invention concerns, besides the said pluri-dose packagings, multilayer films, foils, sheets and the like preferably in form of strips, tapes, bands and the like, associable to the said packaging walls to render them easy to open and safetly reclosable in order to take, in succession, portions of the packed content at least up to its total consumption .
- One of the tendency lines appeared in the last recent years in the packaging field is dictated by the convenience of a progressive increase of the content of the packaging services.
- the male element is a small solid cylinder and the female element is, to simplify, an empty half-cylinder.
- Applicant's European Patent No. 0661164 discloses a non-mechanical system - based on a complexe multilayer foil including a press - sensitive adhesive and an incision or die-cutting, said foil-being particulaly suitable to form lids for containers such as trays provided with edges.
- At least up to now said patented system has been seen as confined to trays and therefore not extendable to containers other than trays.
- a strong need is still remained to have opening-and reclosure devices for repeated extractions, applicable to the major part of containers in particular to those other than trays.
- First object of the invention are now essentially universal devices capable of being associated to the major types of commercial containers, which new devices are free from the inconveniences of the conventional containers in particular of the above mentioned mechanical drawbacks and limitations.
- An other object of the invention is to provide systems of packages which can be opened and reclosed for "n" (i.e. unlimited) repeatable content extractions, in particular of the enveloppe, bag, pouch, bottle-types which incorporate strips or bands obtained from special foils, and realize non mechanical couplings of high reliability.
- a further object of the invention is a method for the preparation of foils which are longitudinally cut to provide said strips.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic partially sectioned front view of a basic pouch system according to the invention.
- - figure la is a partially prospective front-top view of the pouch of fig. 1 from which the head portion has been taken away;
- FIG. 2 is a partially prospective view of the pouch of fig. 1 opened according to the top tear line 7, cut along Z and seen from the side of the arrow F of fig. la;
- FIG. 3 is a top view in cross-section according to line X-X of fig. 2;
- FIG. 4a, 4b, 4c are three longitudinal cross-sections according to line Y-Y in the figures la and 3 of the bag in the correspondence to the band or strip 6;
- FIG. 5 is a block scheme of a manufacturing process of a laminate from which are cut the strips or bands according to the invention.
- FIG. 6 is a scheme of a manufacturing process of the enveloppes or bags of the invention provided with a strip, and sealed and filled with product.
- FIG. 7a, 8a, 9a and 10a are schematic partially cross-sectioned front views of an advantageous improved embodiment of the pouch system of 1;
- FIG. 7b, 8b, 9b and 10b are cross-sectioned views according to line w-w of said figures 7a, 8a, 9a and 10a;
- figure 11a is a cross-sectioned front view, on an enlarged scale, of the most representative portion of figure 7a ;
- Figure 1 shows a system of the invention consisting of a package, f.i. a pouch, bag and the like with a resealable and flexible container body C comprising:
- a strip device 6 is attached by seal 5 ' ' to the inner faces of the primary walls 1 and 1' at the upper portion of packaging C near but under the line 7; the strip device 6 opens and closes the packaging C WITHOUT having recourse to mechanical couplings of the zipper type.
- the closure and opening take place because of the composition of the strip 6 which replaces here the "zipper” and operates by realizing a non mechanical coupling.
- Figure 2 shows in perspective view the package C of fig. la without however the head seal 5' torn or cut away.
- the edges 10-10' are detached and the left side seal 5 of figures 1 and la is imagined also detached so to let see: the content 4 (here simply represented by a granular product) within bag C; the new strip device 6 to open and reclose; - sealings S ⁇ -Bo' 1 of strip 6 to the inner faces of primary walls 1-1'.
- strip 6 is generally cut from a multilayer laminate LA comprising at least:
- thermosealing layer or film (2a) compatible with the inner faces of primary walls 1, I 1 (shown with dashed lines in figures 3, 4a, 4b and 4c generally consisting of a polyolefin resin (homo-, co-polymers of ethylene PE and/or propylene PP, ionomeric or other thermoplastic resins) with a thickness range preferably of from 10 to 60 microns.
- a polyolefin resin homo-, co-polymers of ethylene PE and/or propylene PP, ionomeric or other thermoplastic resins
- thermosealing film can be alone or preferably bonded by a polyurethane adhesive layer PU or by coextrusion (2c, 2'c), to a second layer 2b consisting of a mechanically and thermally more resistant film (as bioriented polypropylene OPP, polyester PET, oriented polyamide OPA, paper, aluminium AL, polypropylene PP, polyethylene PE etc) showing a thickness range of from 5 to 60, preferably 12 to 40 microns and acting also as support or carrier of a presso-sensitive adhesive layer 3.
- a mechanically and thermally more resistant film as bioriented polypropylene OPP, polyester PET, oriented polyamide OPA, paper, aluminium AL, polypropylene PP, polyethylene PE etc
- Said intermediate layer 3 consisting of a pressure-sensitive or repositionable adhesive preferably of acrylic nature and in amounts from 5g to 25 g/m 2 , so formulated that its bonding capability remains unchanged even after repeated detachements from layer 2 and/or layer 2'.
- thermosealing layer or film 2 'a also compatible with the inner faces of the package primary walls 1-1' having a composition which is substantially similar or equal to that of layer 2a even if it can differ therefrom in the structure or thicknesses of said layer, and preferably an optional carrier layer 2'b similar to film 2b or different in structure, thickness, treatment level etc .
- the coupled-film 2 is preferably obtained by coupling (or coextruding) film 2a with film 2b; it can possibly be formed of only one film 2a.
- Film 2' is preferably obtained by coupling (or coextruding) film 2'a with 2'b; it can be formed of only one film 2'a.
- the sign + indicates a coupling through polyurethane adhesives PU or coextrusion COES.
- the films or layers 2 and 2' are bonded (coupling ++) by repositionable (pressure - sensitive) adhesive 3 to form laminate LA.
- Said adhesive 3 can be applied indifferently on film 2 or film 2' at full coverage (i.e. on the whole film surface) or according to longitudinal stripes so to show zones (with a widt or height of from 7 to 50 mm) covered by the adhesive and zones (width from 5 to 30 mm) without adhesive.
- This last method allows the obtainement (after cutting the laminate LA) of strips or bands 6 only partially covered by adhesive which may simplify the package preparation and make easier the opening and reclosing operations of the package.
- the laminate LA is cut in stripes width a with of from 7 to 40 preferably 10 to 25 mm, so to obtain reels of said stripes ready to be utilized on the packaging machines provided with the "ad hoc" device to insert the bands (of the type above described or of the type known as "zipper") during the final package formation.
- the container body forming film i.e. primary walls 1-1' (which are outside the invention scope) can be mono-or multilayer, (two or more layers) formed of the materials currently utilized on the horizontal, vertical or other packaging machines with or without on-line filling, to manufacture envelopes, bags, pouches sachets etc.
- the insertion of strips 6 having the composition and structure described in the above paragraphs I, II, III, IV and V. They are positioned in the predetermined zone and with precision in the point in which the welding bars 8-8' of adeguate form and size, (f.i.
- the sealing upper line Is (and/or lower line li) be possibly coincident with the edges N-N' of the band 6 (fig. 4a) but preferably be under or above said edges and with a distance therefrom which depends on the used band type in relation both to its dimensions and its constitution (full coverage adhesive, or longitunal register adhesive with or without die-cutting etc).
- fig. 4a is shown the case in which the pressure-sensitive adhesive 3 is applied at full coverage, i.e. the edges are coincident with the upper and lower lines N, N ' of strip 6.
- said pressure-sensitive adhesive 3 is applied at register with a band edge i.e. D' is coincident with the strip lower line N 1 but D is under N.
- the adhesive 3 is at register at both the strip edges.
- the band or strip 6 has an adhesive coating only on the zone 3 while the remaining portion (6 minus 3) has a zone P without adhesive.
- the coated zone 3 extends from the extreme lower edge N' of the band 6 up to a height preferably of from 5 to 15 mm therefrom whereby N' is always coincident with the lower edge D' of the adhesive zone the upper edge D of which will always have a distance preferably of 15-5 mm from the band upper edge N.
- the upper sealing bar 8' will carry out an additional weld 5' (fig. 1) extending substantially the center of the notch 9 of the package C.
- figures 7a, 7b show the initial situation with the package head closed by seals 5 '-5
- figures 8a and 8b represent the package with when the top portion has ibeen taken away
- figures 9a abd 9b represent the top portions of the uncoated zone P opened wide apart
- figures 10a and 10b the coated zones 2, 2' of 6 detached up to allow the extraction of a dose of the packed product (4 in fig. 2).
- Figures 11a and lib show more in details the positions of the strip 6 (with the coated part 3 and the uncoated P) , the sealed zone 5' and 5" (by the sealing bars 8, 8' and one notch 9 inside the seal 5).
- the unwinding system of the band during its application in the packing phase can be considered conventional however can vary the mode of the insertion of the band which according to the packaging machine type can be pinched within the sealings 5 and 5o (fig. 1) as in the majority of cases, or can be pre-cut and inserted in the center of the container face, so to not interfere with the side seals.
- the package C completed with the other seals and filled with the product to be packed or still empty to be sent to the filling phase, is considered finished and ready for its utilization.
- Fig. 6 shows the form, sealing and filling system FSF: from reel Bl is unwinded the container body forming film 1 by the unwinding rollers SV and from reel B2 is unwinded the continuos strip 6 which is inserted in the twice folded film, undergoes the sealing 5'' by sealing bars 8, thereafter the sealing 5' (acting also as tamper-evident of tamper proof), by sealing bars
