Abstract

L'invention concerne un système de modem câble à compatibilité descendante, qui permet à des usagers de recevoir des données par un réseau de télévision câblé, au moyen d'un extracteur de données qui extraie des données d'un signal de télévision, ou d'un démodulateur à câble classique. Le système comprend, sur le côté modulation (tête de ligne), un intégrateur de données qui intégre un premier ensemble de données en tant que signaux hôtes sélectionnés afin de produire des signaux composites. Les signaux composites sont des versions filigranées des signaux hôtes. Les signaux composites et un deuxième ensemble de données sont multiplexés ensemble, puis multiplexés avec des signaux de télévision non intégrés au premier ensemble de données (signaux non hôtes). Les signaux multiplexés sont ensuite transmis par le réseau câblé à l'usager. Du côté de l'usager, les signaux composites sont sélectionnés puis transmis à un extracteur de données, lequel extraie des signaux composites des données servant à reconstituer le premier ensemble de données intégré. De plus, le deuxième ensemble de données multiplexé avec les signaux composites et les signaux non hôtes, au niveau de la tête de ligne, sont démultiplexés du côté de l'usager au moyen d'un démodulateur à câble classique. Des transformateurs peuvent être inclus au niveau de la tête de ligne et/ou du côté de l'usager afin de convertir les signaux de télévision entre format source et format de radiodiffusion et/ou entre bande de base et bande de radiodiffusion. Le premier et le deuxième ensembles de données peuvent être constitués totalement ou partiellement des mêmes données.
