Definitions
- the invention relates to a trailer provided with a support frame consisting of a tow bar, a transverse beam which is provided with two running wheels, a load carrier supported by the frame.
- Such trailers which are generally attached behind a car, are generally known and are used to transport all manner of material.
- the problem with the known trailer is that it cannot be stored in a convenient manner and for instance in private houses does not fit into the garage.
- the invention has for its object a trailer which can be stored in a convenient manner.
- the invention has the feature that the transverse beam is divided between a wheel and the tow bar and an auxiliary wheel can be mounted close to this wheel, wherein the load carrier can be folded round a longitudinal beam close to this one wheel, and a second auxiliary wheel is arranged close to the front end of the longitudinal beam.
- the load carrier can be folded upward, wherein the bottom surface of the carrier comes to stand substantially vertically.
- the trailer is held in balance on the one wheel and the auxiliary wheels. In this position the trailer occupies not much more space than a cycle, and the trailer is easily displaceable.
- the transverse beam has a second division between the tow bar and the other wheel.
- This allows the trailer to be split into three parts, wherein the tow bar with the central part of the transverse beam form a part which can optionally be fixed to the load carrier. In this way the other wheel can also be stowed away in convenient manner together with the part of the transverse beam situated close to this wheel.
- weight compensating means are arranged between the longitudinal beam and the underside of the load carrier. These weight compensating means can for instance be gas pressure cylinders which ensure that the weight of the load carrier is reduced when it is lifted upward and which can hold the bottom surface of the carrier in a substantially vertical position of balance.
- figure 1 shows a top view of the tow bar mounted on the transverse beam of a trailer according to the invention
- figure 2 is a top view of the tow bar and the divided transverse beam according to the invention
- figure 3 shows a detail view of the wheel and the associated components which are stowed away separately in the folded position of the trailer
- figure 4 shows a detail view of the locking system used to mutually connect the different parts of the trailer according to the invention
- figure 5 is a side view of the trailer in the folded position, as seen from the top side of the load carrier
- figure 6 is a side view of the trailer in the folded position, as seen from the underside of the load carrier
- figure 7 is a perspective view of the trailer partly in the folded position.
- Figure 1 shows a tow bar 12 mounted on a transverse beam 13 of a trailer according to the invention.
- One of the five latches 1 can be seen in figure 1.
- This latch 1 serves as anchoring on the front side of the load carrier floor.
- Two sleeves 11 are welded to axle 13 and co-act with locks 7, 11 as will be explained in figure 3.
- Figure 2 shows how the transverse beam parts are pushed into sleeves 11.
- Figure 3 shows a detail of turning lock 7 and wheel 16 which is stowed separately in the folded position.
- Lock 7 brings about locking of the transverse beam parts of axle 13.
- Latches 1 of figure 1 secure the floor of the load carrier on holder 20.
- Figure 4 shows in detail the latches 1 which are used.
- Spring 3 presses and holds the internal pin in the sleeve of the latch 1, unless the upper part thereof is rotated through 180° with manual pulling force.
- Figure 5 shows a side view of the folded floor with a folded-up ladder 21. Situated on either side of ladder 21 are two rotation points 17 in which the ladder 21 can tilt rotatingly. Pins 19 can block ladder 21 in the vertical position.
- Figure 6 shows the underside of the trailer in the folded position.
- the two gas pressure cylinders 2 can be seen which make it possible to fold the floor upward with little muscular exertion.
- Gas pressure cylinders 2 are each mounted at two points, wherein one point in each case is situated on the foldable floor and the other is situated on the chassis part which remains in fixed position.
- Hinges 5 are situated at four locations. Lock 11 blocks axle 13 for the purpose of putting together the whole construction as illustrated in figure 2.
- Support wheel 8 which has a fixed freely rotating wheel, is fixed in the vertical position on holder 9 to enable travel.
- a support wheel 14 mounted on holder 15 is a support wheel 14, the wheel of which can turn 360° both to the left and the right.
- the trailer can thereby rotate on an axis through a diameter equal to the length thereof, thus facilitating stowing.
- Tow bar 12 with the central part of axle 13 mounted thereon can be fastened in suspended manner in three hooks 18 on the underside of the floor in the folded position, so that stowing of tow bar 12 and the axle takes up no extra space.
- figure 7 illustrates the folded-up floor, while axle 13 and tow bar 12 are situated in the position of use.
- the floor is secured in the downward position by the three latches 1.
- the U-profile close to wheel 16 anchors the floor in the downward position so that it cannot come loose of itself.
- the front side of the floor is likewise secured by a latch 1.
- the floor is then tilted up on the side of the two latches 1 situated on each side of wheel 16.
- the weight is reduced to a minimum by means of two gas pressure cylinders 2 (see figure 6) . Owing to the pressure which the two cylinders 2 continue to apply the floor remains standing vertically;
- the chassis lies in a holder 20 which is in turn secured by two latches 1 located to the left and right of wheel 16 as shown in figure 7.
- This construction can be applied among other things for all transport of loads, both manually and mechanically (tractors, cars, cycles, motor bikes and other) .
- trailer width it is also possible to reduce the trailer width to about one third of the actual width by folding up the floor by means of two auxiliary cylinders under pressure.
- the manner of folding can be as desired to the left as well as to the right.
- the trailer according to the invention is thus intended for placing on a small surface area.
- the trailer can travel on three wheels in the folded position, and is very easy to handle and manoeuvre.
- a typical construction according to the invention has a gross loading capacity of 500 kg, a length of about 2 m and a width of about 0.5 m in the folded position. These dimensions are of course purely by way of information, and the invention is not limited to the above described embodiment.
- Another example of the trailer according to the invention is for instance a trailer for transporting boats, wherein the load carrier does not generally take a box-like form.
