Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine comprising a spark-ignition engine for a motor vehicle. According to said method, in a first partial load range (1) of the internal combustion engine, the spark-ignition engine is operated using a charge compression combustion method and in a spark-ignition operating range (4) of the internal combustion engine, the spark-ignition engine is operated in the conventional manner. According to the invention, the internal combustion engine also comprises an electric drive and the spark-ignition engine is operated using a charge compression combustion method in another partial load range (2, 3) with the electric drive (ISG) activated in said other partial load range (2, 3). The invention also relates to an internal combustion engine for carrying out said method.
