Abstract

 磁気記録を行う磁気ディスク10であって、磁気記録を行うための磁性層4と、磁性層4上に形成されて、磁性層4を保護する保護層5と、保護層5上に形成される潤滑層6とを備える。保護層5は、実質的に炭素、水素、及び窒素からなる層であり、角度分解X線光電子分光分析により、光電子の検出角度を7°にして検出したN1s及びC1sスペクトルの強度から求めた窒素と炭素の原子量比(N/C)が0.15以上0.25以下である。この保護層5の構成は、膜厚3nm以下であっても耐摩耗性及び摺動特性に優れ、ハイフライライト障害等を回避できる磁気ディスクを提供する。
