Definitions
- the present invention relates to a security seal.
- Safety seals comprise an elongated and flexible strip that closes as a loop on itself, having one of its ends inside a housing formed at the other end thereof. Once the end of the strip is disposed inside the housing, said end cannot be removed from said housing, thanks to a locking mechanism that allows the end to be introduced into the housing but prevents its subsequent removal in the opposite direction.
- a known embodiment of said locking mechanism consists of a pair of elastic arms arranged in the form of a fork at one end of the strip of the seal and designed to be coupled inside a cavity of a body disposed at the other end of the strip. Said elastic arms are normally in the form of an arrow and snap together to corresponding interior walls of the cavity.
- the elastic arms and the cavity are configured so that, by introducing the arms into the cavity, a part of said arms is compressed inwardly by the walls of the cavity.
- each of said parts reaches an area of the cavity in which said parts are diverted outward, thanks to the elasticity of the arms.
- the deviated parts of each arm are supported on edges or housings of the cavity, so that the arms cannot be removed from the cavity and, therefore, the seal is closed and can only be opened by means of the destruction of same.
- a drawback of the described locking mechanism is that the parts of the arms that are coupled to the cavity and that allow the seal to be closed are located in the outer area of the cavity.
- the outer area of the cavity is the most accessible from the outside of the seal and the most vulnerable, so that, by introducing a pointed object between the outer wall of the cavity and the arms, it might be possible to divert the arms inwards and open the seal without any evidence that the seal has been tampered with.
- the cavity comprises additional openings opposite to the main inlet opening of the cavity. These openings serve for a part of the arms to pass through them when said arms have been coupled to the cavity, indicating to the user that the seal has been properly closed.
- the objective of the present invention is to solve the drawbacks of the devices known in the art, by providing a seal comprising a flexible strip, a first fixing element disposed in an area of the strip and a second fixing element disposed at one end. of the strip, the second fixing element comprising at least one pair of elastic arms and each arm comprising an elastic snap-in contact part in an inner cavity of the first fixing element, characterized in that the arms comprise two positions: a first position, in which the respective contact parts of each arm are deflected away between if upon being introduced into the inner cavity, and a second position, in which the contact parts are deflected in close proximity to each other and in which each contact part interacts with a corresponding contact surface of the inner cavity blocking the second element fixing inside the first fixing element.
- the closure of the seal of the present invention is carried out by the mutual approach of a part of each arm, that is, the arms are locked in the cavity by moving each of said parts towards the area central cavity.
- the parts of the arms that are coupled to the cavity are located in the inner area of the cavity, and not in the outer area.
- the inner area of the cavity is less accessible from the outside of the seal than the outer area of the cavity, which makes it possible to better protect the coupling area between the arms and the cavity and makes it difficult to manipulate the seal by inserting objects between the cavity and the arms.
- the contact parts of the arms are remote with respect to a longitudinal central axis of the cavity and, in the second position of the arms, the contact parts of the arms are located closer to the central longitudinal axis of the cavity.
- the contact parts of the arms are deflected outwardly by some walls of the cavity and are then diverted inwards by the elasticity of the arms. arms, being coupled to an interior area of the cavity and closing the seal.
- each arm comprises a free end of the substantially U-shaped arm.
- the arms can be slid through the cavity when they are introduced into the cavity and are locked inside when they reach a certain position.
- the inner cavity extends through the first fixing element longitudinally with respect to the direction of introduction of the second fixing element in the first fixing element and is open to the outside only on the inlet side of the second element of fixing in the first fixing element.
- the cavity only has an opening for the entrance of the arms. That is, the cavity is in the form of a tunnel or blind hole, so that it is not possible to access the inside of the cavity from the bottom of the cavity.
- the inner cavity has a substantially U-shaped longitudinal section.
- Each of the U-shaped legs of the cavity houses a corresponding arm.
- the contact surface of the inner cavity comprises an edge located in the central area of the cavity.
- the central area of the cavity is less accessible from the outside of the seal and is less vulnerable than the outer area of the cavity, so that the contact parts of the arms that interact with said edge of the Cavity to close the seal are more protected.

- Figure 4 is a perspective view of the seal according to the present invention in the closed state
- FIGS 5 to 8 are schematic views showing steps of the sealing process of the seal according to the present invention.
- the present invention consists of a seal 1 comprising a flexible flat strip 2.
- the strip 2 includes a flat body 3 and a housing 4 at one of its ends and a fixing element 5 at its other end.
- the seal 1 is designed to be closed by folding the strip 2 on itself and forming a loop by introducing the fixing element 5 into the housing 4.
- the fixing element 5 is coupled and fixed inside the housing 4 without the possibility of removal, so that it is possible to seal an object thanks to the loop formed by the strip 2.
- the flat body 3 serves to have a label or inscription related to the product to be sealed therein.
- the fixing element 5 comprises a pair of substantially parallel elastic arms 6 that extend longitudinally with respect to the strip 2 from one of its ends.
- Each arm 6 comprises at its free end a substantially U-shaped contact part 7.
- Each contact part 7 comprises a first half 7a and a second half 7b. Both halves form an acute angle to each other and are slightly inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the strip 2.
- the first half 7a extends in a distance with respect to the strip 2 from the initial section of the corresponding arm 6.
- the second half 7b extends to the strip 2 from a curved intermediate part that connects the two halves 7a, 7b.
- the housing 4 comprises a hollow prismatic body that is located on one of the faces of the flat body 3, near the strip 2, and which extends substantially perpendicularly with respect to the plane formed by said strip 2 and said flat body 3.
- the housing 4 includes an inner cavity 8 (see figures 5 to 8) which also extends essentially perpendicularly with respect to the plane formed by the strip 2 and the flat body 3, and which is communicated with the outside through an opening main 9, located at the end of the housing 4 adjacent to the flat body 3.
- the inner cavity 8 of the housing 4 has a substantially U-shaped longitudinal section, and comprises a central wall 10 that separates the two legs of the U.
- the seal 1 is designed to be closed by folding the strip 2 on itself and forming a loop by introducing the fixing element 5 into the housing 4, that is, by introducing the arms 6 into the inner cavity 8 of the housing 4.
- a preliminary stage is shown in Figure 5 in which the fixing element 5 has not yet been introduced in the housing 4 and in which the respective arms 6 and the contact parts 7 are in the rest position.
- each arm 6 and its corresponding contact part 7 are arranged between the outer wall 11 of the cavity 8 and a widening 12 of the central wall 10 of the cavity 8. Because the free space between the outer wall 11 and the widening 12 is smaller than the width of the contact part 7 in rest state, said contact part 7 it is compressed, so that half 7b is diverted towards half 7a, moving away from the longitudinal central axis L of the cavity 8 and the other half 7b of the other arm 6.
- the halves 7b are arranged adjacent to a corresponding edge 13 of the widening 12, whose surface is substantially perpendicular to the direction of introduction of the fixing element 5 in the cavity 8.
- the halves 7b are supported on said edges 13, so that it is impossible to remove the fixing element 5 from the cavity 8.
- the widening 12 has a substantially conical longitudinal section that widens in the direction of insertion of the fixing element 5 in the cavity 8.
- This form of the widening 12 facilitates the compression of the contact parts 7 at the beginning of the introduction of the fixing element 5 in the cavity 8 (figure 6).
- the taper of the widening 12 tends to move the contact parts 7 out of the cavity 8, thanks to the fact that the contact parts 7 tend to recover their expanded rest position and the ramp shape of the widening 12, which favors the movement of said contact parts 7 outwards. In this way, the user will immediately perceive that the seal has not been properly closed.
- the housing 4 only has an opening 9 for access to the inside of the cavity 8, it is impossible to access the cavity 8 from the outside from other openings located at the bottom of the cavity 8, as it was the case of prior art devices.
- the seal 1 comprises a flange 14 between the strip 2 and the fixing element 5.
- This flange 14 fits in a corresponding mouth 15 that forms part of the opening 9 of the cavity 8 and makes access to the interior of the cavity 8 difficult when the fixing element 5 is locked inside the cavity 8 and the seal 1 has been closed (figure 8).
- the strip 2 further comprises weakening zones 16 next to the bracket 3, close to the housing 4, and next to the fixing element 5.
- Said weakening zones 16 consist of rectangular openings that cross the strip 2 and allow the seal 1 to be broken manually if necessary.
- the strip 2 comprises a rough grip area 17 located close to the fixing element 5.
- said grip zone 17 comprises a plurality of curved relief elements present on the surface of both sides of the strip 2. The grip zone 17 allows the user to hold the strip 2 with the fingers effectively and facilitate the introduction of the fixing element 5 into the cavity 8 of the housing 4 to close the seal 1.
- the seal 1 will be made of materials with adequate flexibility and strength that allow obtaining the described characteristics, such as polypropylene.
