The Activity Indicator utility is a simple program that indicates the HDD activity in the system tray. It contains advanced logging capabilities and friendly interface. It can be used to log the drives and supports indication of many drives by running multiple instances. Now with better, brand new interface!

DaemonFS is a real time file watcher. Cross-platform, free and opensource.

It is a free program, a watcher for some directories (filesystem monitor). It lives in windows tray. It logs latest several changed files in context menu items and let you go to logged file in windows explorer. It is a stanalone application, which needs no installation. Fsdb speeds up the creation of slocate's database files by tracking which directories change and therefore performs much less work when updating the database. Updates are about 60 times faster than updatedb.

imntr (inode monitor) can be used to montior activity on files or directories. Monitoring is accomplished through the inotify API, which is available on Linux 2.6.13 and up. v1.1 added logging capabilities and cleaned up some of v1.0's code v1.2 no longer forces you to run imntr as root. If you want to monitor a privileged file, imntr will fail and tell you that you need to run imntr as root.
