AAX to MP3 Reviews

Makes only 1 KB file. Instructions are in english as bad as in german. Incredeble stupid instructions; how does one program (e.g. AudibleManger) know about the other? The aax2mp3 always behaves incorrectly, whether with or without AudibleManger ...

This program works IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Period. Hint: the "Audible Manager" application is NOT the one audible offers you to install on windows10. you will get this application from cnet.dowloads e.g. Well done. Cheers. ;-)

It was the first tool I encountered that did the job properly. Excellent in its heydays, albeit with a few obstacles, like the well hidden advanced GUI which never made it into an official release. But as this project has not seen any updates for a very long time, I believe it's acceptable to move on. I've discovered AAX Audio Converter (on Github: AaxAudioConverter). It's open source also and even written in the same programming language. But most important: It runs on Win10 right out of the box, without further ado.

Worked perfectly on a downloaded audible audiobook, aax format under win 10, both as a single entire file and again broken into chapters. Only free converter I could find (Openaudible is opensource yet shareware??!?). TY!

Problem #1: The instructions say to open the GUI file. I did that and got a tiny window with only two words, neither of which was in English; I had to run them through Google Translate to figure out what to do. (Google says it's German.) Problem #2, which is worse: The conversion did only 1 kb and then stopped. So basically, it's useless as well as not user-friendly (for English speakers anyway). Time to look for another method.

Won't convert the file beyond a 1kb file. I'm using Windows 10. Can anyone suggest why it won't work, please?

Just wanted to say thanks so much for making this software. It is so frustrating to pay so much money for Audible, but I can't listen to the books on my non-itunes-compatible devices. You just made that happen. Yeah it is in one looooong MP3, but it's better than not being able to listen to it at all, so I really appreciate it. Thanks again!

Both versions, the still official 1.0 as well as the inofficial milestone 2 worked for me. However with a few limitations: - I could neither version get to work on my Win10 32b installation. In both cases the OS reported incompatible executables (note: it was not related to any authorisation of the encryption module). Only after I moved to my 64b laptop it ran like a charm. - When you want to use the enhanced GUI version available in ticket 16 make sure you scroll down and download the 1.0.3 rather than the 1.0 at the top of the ticket. The 1.0 didn't run for me either as there was a problem with long file names and spaces in the path. However 1.0.3 was perfect.

To convert audiobooks from aax to mp3 follow the following steps. 1. Install audio manager. 2. Set audio manager to run in compatibility mode with windows xp service pack 3 or 2. 3. Run audio manager and select deafult location for aax books. 4. Run AaxToMp3GUI.exe 5. Select the location of the file to be converted. 6. Click the bottom button to start the conversion. 7. The converted mp3 file will be placed in the same folder as original file.

Worked exactly as described. Regarding the virus hit mentioned in comments, I scanned the zip folder and individual files with Bitdefender and then uploaded the files to Virustotal with no hits. Finally a way to archive items I've purchased against the day the company goes out of business! An English version would be great, but its pretty easy with only 2 buttons.

(Windows 10, 10/2018) Notes to uliole's steps: Step 1: Click-through path to Audible Manager download: Go to audible.com > Hi <your name here> > How to Listen > On your computer and mp3 > Install AudibleManager > Install Anyway. Step 2: Windows 10, didn't bother with compatibility mode, no problem. Step 7: g2sidhu: No Debug.log appears to mean no error, skip this step. Step 8: Book showed up in AudibleManager, didn't have to do an additional step to download. Step 11: No Umwandlung beendet. Clicked Durchsuchen to open file, clicked Umwandeln to convert, when Umwandeln was again clickable and Dauer stopped updating it was ready. ntg7829: Scanned, clean.

Brilliant project, made it easier to backup bought audible books in mp3 format! For reference, if someone gets error System.AccessViolationException in AaxToMp3.AaxSdk.AAXDecodePCMFrame, try downloading .aax file again, perhaps not using Audible Download Manager but directly (download .adh file from audible, copy content and append to http ://cdl.audible.com/cgi-bin/aw_assemble_title_dynamic.aa? - eg ...dinamyc.aa?user_id=CV_j...). See /tickets/16/ for full reference Also, if not working on Windows 10, go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Audible\Bin\Manager.exe", properties, Compatibility, and set to Win 7 compatibility and run as admin, and after activating check in bin\Debug.log if DeviceUI.dll has been registered successfully.

Still working on Win10 with all software updated. Reviews give good instruction - if in trouble keep reading.

I tried what uliole suggested previously. However I am stuck at the step trying to find C:\Program Files (x86)\Audible\Bin\Debug.log I can't seem to find Debug.log. Not sure if anyone has any ideas?

Good for good books you've supported the creators of. Use Internet Explorer to get the book. Read the other reviews for help.

Okay, I wasn't going to review since it was just going to be "does what it says it does, but in Dutch". However, after converting a few files, I am pleasantly surprised to see how quickly it converts large files. If it wasn't for the fact that the thing is in dutch, I'd give it 5 stars. It's still perfectly workable, press the top button, choose your file, press the bottom button, wait a few seconds, minutes only for large files, and viola. I almost didn't try this program because of the reviews and the description made me think you have to sign in on the program itself, this is not the case. Worked perfectly for me, quickly, easily, and simply on Win10.

Notes for future me (and anyone else). When the output of the AaxToMp3GUI.exe is a 2kB file that is not playable the problem is not with the AaxToMp3GUI.exe app - which works well - but with the Audible Manager which fails to register properly the content that is downloaded. When running on Windows 10: 1) Download and install (use default location and settings) "Audible Manager" from here audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4757/~/how-do-i-install-audible-manager%3F 2) Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Audible\Bin right click on Manager.exe under the compatibility mode select "Windows 7". Click OK. 3) Right click again on Manager.exe and select "Run as Administrator". 5) In the Manager app select Devices and Activate... 6) Enter your Amazon credentials. 7) Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Audible\Bin\Debug.log and make sure in the last entry (use the timestamp as reference) the DeviceUI.dll has been registered successfully. If it doesn't register successfully it will say "Failed to register server DeviceUI.dll" and you'll have to fiddle some more with the settings. 8) Download the link to the Audible book from audible.com 9) Double click on the link (this will start the download in the already open Manager.exe program). 10) Once download is done check the file is imported into Manager.exe. If it isn't import it manually. 11) Open AaxToMp3GUI.exe click top button and select the aax file that was downloaded. Then click bottom button. The "Dauer" corresponds to how many hh:mm:ss have been converted (at the end it will reach the length of the book). At the end it will say "Umwandlung beendet" (conversion finished).

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Ensure you install and are logged into Audible Manager before starting the app. Windows 7
