"Amazing Resource for Data Dictionary"

What do you like best about Atlan?

Atlan has decreased the time it takes to research our internal data sources and the relationships data within our warehouses. As a data engineer, it's also alleviated our team of being the single source of knowledge for the definitions of our data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

There's a query option within Atlan that I don't have much use for. The data preview is extremely useful, but any sort of query development is much better served or accomplished with another tool that we have because those other tools are more robust. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

When I look at data within our data warehouse, I sometimes do not know the definitions of specific metrics or the source. The data dictionary within Atlan forces us as engineers to take the design thinking we used to build pipelines, data tables, views, etc and define it for the larger organization. It also supports historical data understanding and architecture to make decisions for new products that we engineer for our stakeholders. What do you like best about Atlan?

It has a lot of different features and every feature is super useful. What the greatest aspact is, is their service. They have very custom and quick support and I would definitly recommend Atlan! The masterclasses and tips & tricks are also super useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

I don't dislike anything. What could improve a bit more is the stability of new features. Since development is quite fast sometimes features could use a bit more time to test without bugs. What do you like best about Atlan?

One of the best things about Atlan is they have not treated us like a customer, but as a partner from the very beginning. What I mean when I say that is, they have had check-ins with us and our team, proactively seeking feedback and ways they can make improvements to better help us accomplish what is important for our team. We have never had such a positive relationship with a customer success manager as we do with Atlan from any other software before. Another great thing is its ability to seamlessly integrate into software/tools that we are already using, like Google suite, Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Salesforce, Jira, Slack, and Tableau... What do you dislike about Atlan?

There was definitely some confusion for us in the beginning with the language that Atlan uses to talk about governance - purposes, policies, personas... lots of alliteration there made it easy for us to confuse how they should each be used. But the support team is VERY responsive - I mean we have a response within 15 minutes - and they are eager to help and better the experience and the product overall. What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

We had a bit of a documentation and transparency problem with our data before Atlan. They have enabled us to build more credibility with colleagues because they are now more easily able to see where the data is coming from, how it's being defined, what queries are being used to capture certain metrics, how we're defining those metrics, and more! We currently have information about data in several places (confluence, jira, slack, google apps, etc) by allowing the original documents to be linked from their places of origin onto the data assets; this gives freedom to continue to update the original documents but also provide a one-stop source to all related information. What do you like best about Atlan?

The Atlan UI is easy for my new users to perform governance tasks with little training. You do not need a big team to implement and manage Atlan.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

Migration to the upgraded version was a little bumpy, but now that we're on it, we're fine.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

The business glossary and documenting BI assets are our key use cases. We are very heavy users of the glossary - it's our source of truth for enterprise definitions and SME knowledge on data assets. This saves time and ensures data consumers are getting what they think they are - a big step forwards for data literacy. We've now expanded from having a centralized team documenting BI assets to enabling all self-serve reporting creators to do so. What do you like best about Atlan?

The Atlan team provide us with a lot of support to ensure we get the most from the tool. It's very user friendly and highly intuitive - quick to get going with and feature packed (that eventually we will progress to using) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

We have found a couple of limitations - data access controls is the biggest one that doesn't match with our companies regulations (so this is one area we aren't able to make use of) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The driver to get Atlan into the enterprise was to create a data catalogue - enabling both business and IT to be aware of our data landscape and to work together to increase and share knowledge. We are gradually moving into this space - so we haven't yet been able to fully use all the features that Atlan offers . but we are working with our 'success manager' to push us forwards. We are using Atlan to solve multiple problems.

It helps us identify all data assets across our organization, who/what generates them, who/what consumes them, etc...

It is now our source of truth regarding our business glossary and ensures we all talk the same language.

"Best Data Catalog tool in the market"

What do you like best about Atlan?

Atlan has native integrations with Snowflake, DBT and PowerBI. Thus it is straightforward to crawl your assets. The search functionality is excellent. Their API's are easy to use and well-documented. All these features provide immense value to our users. Also, forgot to mention they have excellent customer support with a reasonable SLA. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

The ability to impersonate a user or a persona is missing. As an admin, it is challenging to troubleshoot access privilege issues raised by any users. Also, capability to automatically assign a default persona to new users will be handy. Also, the ability to set default connector and default environment for the connector(by the admin) in the main search page will be very useful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

Developers can asses impact analysis using the lineage feature. Also, troubleshooting issues is much easier now. Analysts are able to search for the assets and get the results.
