"Patching Endpoints Made Easy: My Hands-On Experience with Action1"
What do you like best about Action1?

What I find most helpful about Action1 is that the first 200 endpoints are free. As the Technology Director for a small nonprofit private school, I have to be very mindful of our budget. I was specifically searching for a free solution for patching computers, and that's when I discovered Action1. Since I manage fewer than 150 devices, the platform is completely free for my needs and I use it daily, whether it's patching endpoints, upgrading devices to Windows 11, or using the remote desktop feature. Setting it up was also very straightforward—I was able to deploy the agent to all my devices using Group Policy. For small organizations like mine, Action1 has truly been a lifesaver. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

Although I don't have many macOS devices in my network, I do have a few, and while I can use Action1 to patch my Macs, I find it less robust compared to patching my Windows machines. The remote desktop feature does function, but its capabilities are quite limited. For example, I can't transfer files from my computer to the target device through Action1, so I have to rely on another program for that task. Additionally, if the target device uses a second monitor, I can't simply scroll between screens; instead, I have to click a button to switch views. One more issue is that Action1 logs me out more frequently and sooner than I would prefer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kimberly Gonzales of Action1

Hi Brandon,

We're happy to hear that Action1 has been instrumental in helping you patch your computers and upgrade your Windows devices. We appreciate your feedback about the limitations you've experienced with patching macOS devices and the remote desktop feature. We're continuously working to improve our platform, and your input will be taken into consideration as we strive to enhance the user experience for all our customers.

"Simple/Easy to use yet powerful"
What do you like best about Action1?

For me there are 3 strong points that make Action1 particularly attractive:

- Simplicity: Onboarding devices is incredibly simple, either single devices or Active Directory bulk can be done in minutes

- Easy to use: Everything you need is laid out in clear visualisations and dashboards, vulnerabilities/missing updates etc

- Powerful: The scheduled tasks, scripting, and modularity aspects makes it easy to extend the existing functionality specific to your needs

All features are available for free forever for the first 200 endpoints.

Any features that you need you can request to be put on the public backlog, which they are actively working on, e.g. recent addition of Mac support is a big plus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

Lacking some of the more advanced/fine-grain features that products like Intune offer. Most likely can achieve somewhat similar results through the scripting aspects though. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kimberly Gonzales of Action1

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that you find Action1 simple, easy to use, and powerful. Our goal is to provide a user-friendly experience with robust functionality. We appreciate your feedback and are continuously working to add more features.

"Does with near zero footprint what a massive and outdated WSUS eco system does, only better!"
What do you like best about Action1?

I am impressed by how Action One, with its lightweight agent, is able to handle all software updates—from the operating system to Adobe, drivers, and even VMware tools. On top of that, it also provides remote control and remote reboot capabilities, all within such a streamlined package. The operational overhead for this is almost zero. Implementation is a breeze so long as one keeps the customised install binary at hand. Customer support: i cannot judge this as the product thus far never required any support. I used this product every day and due to use having complex interdependencies a value the ability to mix and match automation and manual selection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

Honestly, i cannot think of any downsides. WSUS no longer is an option for us and other products are just as bloated or unwieldy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I love the the layout of the UI and the automations available"
What do you like best about Action1?

The UI is laid out in a way that makes sense to me. It is easy to navigate and has all the options out in the open and not buried in menus. I like that it offers automations that don't require I know coding and my own batch files. I use it every day to keep an eye on my workstations and servers. Getting started was a breeze and putting it on all my machines was easy and fast. Their huge repository of software that they maintain is amazing. It means I don't have to constantly download new versions myself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

The biggest downside I have is that it doesn't due updates to Office. I've tried setting it up the way they recommend and I can't get it to work. I would love it if they set up something that was easier to implement that. Another downside is the vagueness of some of the error codes. It can be difficult to figure out why an automation isn't completing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Budget-Friendly IT Resource"
What do you like best about Action1?

Action1 has been great for maintaining a clear inventory for our company. I can easily deploy agents to workstations, identify which workstations are online, and deploy updates as needed.

The ability to schedule Windows updates at specified intervals has been greatly helpful in ensuring we're up to date on necessary updates.

It's also great that I can remotely access our users' workstations to work on them when I am not in the office.

I use Action1 almost daily. It was easy to integrate and implement into our tech stack.

I've yet to use their customer support. However, with how smooth everything has been, I don't see a need for it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

If I'm honest, I'm not sure there's a downside. Action1 has been a tremendous help in this IT house of 1. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Action1: Simple, Effective, and Free—But Remote Support Needs Improvement"
What do you like best about Action1?

Action1 is incredibly easy to use and does what I need it to do. I work for a small non-profit that did not have any kind of patching procedure in place before I took on the role. I needed something that was easy to implement and just as easy to use, the cost of zero dollars was the icing on the cake! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

The only thing I don't love about Action1 is that that remote support tool is nowhere near as robust as others I've used and could use some features added on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kimberly Gonzales of Action1

Hi Ben,

We're thrilled to hear that Action1 has helped you efficiently manage your endpoints and provide seamless support. We value your input about the remote support tool and will strive to make it more robust.

"Action1 does everything you hoped it would."
What do you like best about Action1?

I love that I can push updates manually in real time rather than waiting for the "I'll do it whenever I feel like it" that is WSUS. The ability to schedule, automate and granularly control not just Microsoft but other Vendors products is amazing. I LOVE that I can now have secure remote access to endpoints from anywhere!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

The least helpful aspect is that the environment is still very much Windows-centric. In our environment we have a few MacOS devices [unfortunately] and Mac support is still new to Action1.

That said, the product team at Action1 are actively developing and improving and they listen to their user-community.

Personally I cant wait for Linux support. Initially I would be happy to just be able to automate Linux boxes updating themselves... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Excellent Option for growing MSSP"
What do you like best about Action1?

While there are so many options for patching, we chose Action1 as they first 200 licenses are free always which is extremely helpful in our current economy. We truly appreciate how they go through manual validations of scripts and custom applications before allowing customers to upload them, that is a huge bonus where trust is important.

Other features we really appreciate are while it is not pitched as an RMM, they have been adding functionality to provide that for additional troubleshooting. It is a great option that seems to have worked with very high accuracy with our team and customers and we plan to stick with it for as long as we can.

Key positives:

Ease of Use

Ease of implementation

Customer Support

Ease of integrating it with our tech stack Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

"Great RMM tool for starting or long term"
What do you like best about Action1?

This RMM tool is a great fit whether you’re just starting out with remote monitoring and management or planning to use it as a long-term solution. The setup is straightforward, and the interface is clean enough that even someone new to RMM platforms can get up to speed quickly. At the same time, it has plenty of depth and flexibility for more advanced use cases, making it reliable as your needs grow.

The key strengths are:

Ease of deployment – agents install quickly and reporting is clear.

Scalability – works well whether you’re managing a handful of endpoints or scaling to hundreds.

Feature set – patch management, monitoring, and remote access are all solid.

Value – cost-effective without sacrificing core functionality.

Support and documentation are also strong, which makes troubleshooting or exploring advanced configurations much smoother.

Overall, this RMM tool strikes the right balance between simplicity and capability. It’s approachable for beginners but powerful enough for long-term use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

Not having a Linux installer so I can manage and monitor my Linux VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kimberly Gonzales of Action1

Hi Jay,

We're thrilled to hear that Action1 is meeting your remote monitoring and management needs, from ease of deployment to advanced functionality. Your feedback about the Linux installer is duly noted and we will take it into consideration for future updates.

"Action 1 is stability in a sea of chaos!"
What do you like best about Action1?

The patching on Action1 is class-leading. I haven't used another tool which handles it as well without being overly complicated. I don't have hours and hours to pour though patching, and Action1 has turned this into a ten minute task and I find myself checking in on it all the time as it gives a great summary of the network at a glance. Rolling out Action1 with the MSI installer to endpoints via Intune or GPO was flawless and "just worked. I have been burned in the past by weak Discovery Agents in other platforms, but when I took a risk on the discovery tool it added every single machine in the domain, and provided useful logs in return. I genuinely couldn't believe my eyes. Customer Support from Action1, when I had a single question a while ago was answered immediately, but to be honest, I haven't needed to speak to anyone because the manual and software actually work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Action1?

I would love to see some Linux support, the windows endpoint support is great, but even with some basic support for Debian servers would be life changing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kimberly Gonzales of Action1

Hi Kris,

Thanks for your review! We're glad to hear that the deployment process was seamless and that the discovery tool exceeded your expectations. We also appreciate your feedback on Linux support and will definitely take it into consideration for future updates.
