"Astronomer Powered Airflow"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

Ease of setting up and launching Airflow in production. Suits well for teams which have limited data engineering capacity and allows to focus more on the business logic for the pipelines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

Have been using the product for 3 months now. I do not see any limitations per se with the Astro itself. It used to have very limited functionality for integrating dbt projects but with the latest release, this concern is addressed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best in Orchestration"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

- Astro is a very easy-to-use platform.

- The Astro CLI makes it simple to manage your Airflow deployments from the command line, and the Astro UI is user-friendly and well-designed

-. Being a Managed platform developer can more focus on providing business solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

Costing is sometimes not transparent and the COSMOS library is still something we can do and add new features as it is restricted on to DBT and hoping it can also give addition view if added for DLT tables. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Navigating Workflow Management"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

The tool offers a user-friendly solution for managing complex workflows through its intuitive interface. Users can easily create, schedule, and monitor intricate data pipelines, benefiting from enhanced logging and monitoring features. The platform's visual workflow builder simplifies the design of tasks and dependencies, while streamlined connection and secret management ensure secure access to data sources without manual configuration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

The platform's ease of use might come with limitations in cases requiring highly customized or unconventional workflow setups. Additionally, Astro's dependency on Astronomer's infrastructure could limit flexibility for specific use cases. While Astro aims to streamline deployment, the intricacies of setting up and managing Airflow clusters could still pose challenges, especially for users less familiar with cloud infrastructure. "Very early stage product for production"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

Not much to be honest. In fact, the only interesting thing is that the infrastructure can scale automatically to run your scheduled jobs.

Also the technical support, if pinged strongly, can dedicate few hours to your issue, even in a meeting where the technical guys are sharing their screen with all the technical details. This is really helpful!

Beside that, on the good feedback, the dev are able to use the product correctly, so all good for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

First, the user interface. It is a bit messy, and the authentication part was weird until very recently.

Second, the monitoring is inexistant. It means you need to implement your own logic to monitor whether or not your job are running properly. There is nothing out of the box. This is a big issue when it comes to production jobs.

Third the user management: you cannot create groups of users and assign a group to a workspace. It's very old-fashion user management, so that when a new dev is hired, you have to add him manually to N workspaces. I'm not kidding...

Fourth: the price, at the beginning it's cheap, but the price goes crazy quickly for a not-so-much big setup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Juliana ODonohue of Astro by Astronomer

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I personally review all of the feedback we receive, and take reviews seriously to continuously improve our product. I wanted to share a few updates to our product that were recently released and address your feedback. As you know, our authentication was recently updated to make it a more seamless experience for users. We also released Astro Teams and SCIM, to solve some the user management problems you listed. You can now create your own groups of users within Astro and assign them a role; or you can leverage your existing IdP to automatically create groups and assign roles. Finally, we released pay-as-you-go pricing based on infrastructure consumption that offers competitive and transparent pricing. If you have a chance, we'd love for you to check out these improvements.

"Absolutely Satisfied With Astronomer"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

Workflow and dependeny management for Enterprise level data lakes are well suited for Astronomer.

The product is more user friendly by supporting APIs, easy-to-build DAGs and graphical user interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

Despite being an important tool, Astronomer still has room for improvement. We frequently experience realtime UI loading problems.

And aslo the documentation is adequate, adding more in-depth guides would be helpful, especially for advanced features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great user and developer experience"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

The way the Astronomer development environment can be prepared and used with a simple CLI, the tight integration with the cloud enviroments, the easy way to deploy, secure and manage both workspaces, deployments and users, makes it a great solution a already great product that is Airflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

Not much really... perhaps some of the technical requirements (both of networrking and security) in the initial cluster deployment makes it "hard to sell" in a corporate environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Love the Airflow Power Packed by Astronomer"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

Love the timely updates, support whenever required.

The team is always available to help us whenever required, recently they were supporting us through the slack channel which they launched. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

Costing, if they can improve on costing that would be the best thing.

Any which would not consider Airflow would be only because of high cost, but still I feel compared to other product it's way better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Getting Aiflow up and running is super easy but a bit pricy"
What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?

Astronomer's UI is super intuitive and makes it easier to have multiple separate workspaces and Airflow deployments. This way, each team can have its own Airflow in a few minutes.

Astronomer also has an integrated cloud IDE and the Astro CLI, which increases a lot the development speed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?

It can be very expensive and smaller companies may not have the budget to afford it. The self-hosted solution can easily increase your AWS monthly bill by USD 1.000,00 with just a few DAGs running. The plan entirely hosted by Astronomer looks like a black box where you don't have much visibility about what is being charged. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
