Beta feature
Postman Agent Mode is currently in open beta on Basic and Professional plans and available to users who consent to using AI.
Agent Mode turns your words into action across the API lifecycle. Send requests, fix errors, and update tests using natural language. Agent Mode has access to an expanding set of tools within Postman, with over 70 tools already covered today. This means it can perform hundreds of tasks across the most important Postman features.
Simply describe your task or issue, and Agent Mode will handle creating requests, debugging errors, writing tests, and managing collections. Agent Mode can help you across collections, tests, workspace management, environments, monitors, and Spec Hub.
You can get started quickly by using built-in suggestions, selecting actions within the context of your work, or using natural language requests.
The Agent Mode chat gives you options to switch your AI model or configure an MCP server. You can also start over or continue from a previous conversation. You can help Postman improve Agent mode by providing feedback and reporting issues.
You can also learn more about Postman’s AI settings.
To use Agent Mode, do the following:
Open your Postman workspace.
Click Open Agent in the bottom-right corner. A new chat opens.
Next, start your chat based on the task you want to perform. Agent Mode will ask clarifying questions or request your approval before performing an action.
You can do any of the following:
Select a suggestion — For example, select “Organize existing requests into logical folders”. Agent Mode identifies requests that can be grouped into folders and makes suggestions for you to approve and implement.
Type ”@” to select the context for your work — For example, select Collections and find a request in a collection to modify.
Postman lets you add collections, folders, requests, environments, and API specifications as context. Your active tab shows in the chat and also serves as context.
Describe your task in plain language — For example, type “Create two workflow scenarios in a ‘tests’ folder for my Library API using open library API endpoints”, and watch Agent Mode carry it out.
Not sure what to do? Try asking “What tasks can I do in Agent Mode?” for a full list of its capabilities and common tasks you can use to work more efficiently with your API development and testing workflows.
To switch your AI model, click the model dropdown (Auto by default) and select a specific AI model.
Postman recommends Auto as an optimized model based on Postman’s heuristics. But if you see suboptimal output, try selecting a different model.
The Settings also gives you options to run Agent Mode automatically and configure MCP servers.
To learn more about using MCP servers in Postman, see Create MCP requests and add them to your collections.
If you get stuck, click in the upper right corner to start a new chat. You can also view and continue any previous conversation by clicking
.
Your feedback and insights are valuable to Postman. Your input directly shapes the evolution of Agent Mode.
To report an issue, under results select and Report issue.
You can also use thumbs up or
thumbs down to provide feedback. Thumbs down opens a dialog for you to describe and submit your issue with Agent Mode.
To turn off Agent Mode, click Settings > AI and toggle off Try Agent Mode.
You can also control any of the following code editing options:
