Abstract
Description
本出願は2007年3月21日出願の米国特許仮出願第60/896145号の利益を主張するものであり、その開示の全容をここに援用するものである。
本発明に関連して用いられるベースプレートは、研磨体の残りの部分を支持するプラットフォームを好ましくは与えるものである。ベースプレートは本明細書で述べるような被駆動工具のシャフトに連結できるような構造をも有することが好ましいが、こうした連結構造はベースプレートとは別に設けてもよい。
本発明に関連し、場合に応じて用いられる圧縮部材は、本発明に関連して用いられる研磨体の研磨面の中央部分を好ましくは支持する。圧縮部材の弾性圧縮性によって、ベースプレートの辺縁部において研磨面によって加えられる力の集中が制限されるものと考えられる。圧縮部材が弾性圧縮性に加えてシステムにある程度の捻じれ柔軟性を更に与えることによって、圧縮部材が工具の被駆動シャフトの回転方向の変化に応じて捻じれるようにすることも好ましい。
本明細書で述べるように、場合に応じて使用される支持層は、使用時に研磨部材に支持を与える可撓性の弾性層であることが好ましい。支持層は本発明の研磨体の圧縮部材と研磨部材との間に好ましくは配置される。支持層は任意の好適な方法又は方法の組み合わせ(例、ホットメルト接着剤、感圧接着剤、硬化性接着剤、接着剤、熱ラミネート、化学溶着、共押出し、インサート成型など)によって圧縮部材に取り付けることができる。
本発明の研磨体において使用される研磨部材は、工作物を研磨するために用いられる研磨面を与えるものである。研磨部材は場合に応じて可撓性の裏材(すなわち、コーティングされた研磨体)に固定される研磨層を有することが好ましい。場合に応じて用いられる研磨部材の可撓性の裏材は弾性があってもなくてもよい。
以下の説明は本発明の研磨体、工具及び方法、並びに比較例の研磨体、工具及び方法の使用例を示すものである。
以下の説明は、本発明の研磨体、工具及び方法、並びに比較例の方法を用いた欠陥の除去及びポリッシュの方法の例を示すものである。
比較例C及び実施例5〜8のそれぞれの最後に、試験パネルの仕上げを以下のスケールに従って視覚的に評価した。
Claims (20)
- 工作物表面の欠陥を修復する方法であって、
被駆動工具のシャフトを用い、回転軸を中心として研磨体の研磨面を回転往復運動させることによって工作物表面の1以上の欠陥をサンディングする工程であって、前記研磨体の研磨面が前記回転軸を中心として回転往復運動する際に、前記研磨体の研磨面に付着された研磨粒子によって前記工作物表面が研磨される工程と、
前記工作物表面をパッドの作業面と接触させることによって、前記1以上の欠陥のそれぞれを囲み、かつ含む前記工作物表面のある領域をポリッシュする工程であって、前記パッドの作業面は前記工作物表面及び前記パッドの作業面を通じて延びる回転軸を中心として一方向に回転され、研磨スラリーが前記パッドの作業面によって前記工作物表面に押し付けられ、前記研磨スラリーは前記研磨体の研磨面に付着された前記研磨粒子よりも細かい研磨粒子を含む工程と、を含む方法。 - 前記1以上の欠陥を囲み、かつ含む各領域に対して行われる1回以上の後続のポリッシュ操作を更に含み、前記1回以上の後続のポリッシュ操作はそれぞれ、前記工作物表面をパッドの作業面と接触させることを含み、前記パッドの作業面は前記工作物表面及び前記パッドの作業面を通じて延びる回転軸を中心として一方向に回転され、研磨スラリーが前記パッドの作業面によって前記工作物表面に押し付けられ、前記後続のポリッシュ操作のそれぞれで用いられる前記研磨スラリーは、同じ領域に対して行われる先のポリッシュ操作で用いられる前記研磨スラリーに含まれる研磨粒子よりも細かい研磨粒子を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記ポリッシュ操作のうちの2回以上で使用される前記パッドの作業面が同じである、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 前記ポリッシュ操作のうちの2回以上で使用される前記パッドの作業面が異なる、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 前記パッドがデュアルアクション回転式工具を用いて回転される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記パッドの作業面が平坦である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記パッドの作業面が複雑な表面を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨面を回転往復運動させることが、前記研磨面を1Hz以上の振動数で往復運動させることを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体が約500平方ミリメートル(mm2)以下の面積を有する研磨面を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨面を回転往復運動させることが、約360°よりも小さい円弧上で前記研磨面を往復させることを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨面を回転往復運動させることが、約90°よりも小さい円弧上で前記研磨面を往復させることを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体の研磨面が平坦な研磨面を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨面の前記研磨粒子が結合剤中に分散されている、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨面が、前記研磨粒子を含有する複数個の構造化研磨複合体を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体が圧縮可能部材を有し、前記圧縮可能部材が前記シャフトと前記研磨面との間に配置されるように前記研磨体が前記圧縮可能部材に取り付けられる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体が、前記シャフトの末端に取り付けられた剛性のベースプレートを含み、前記圧縮可能部材が前記剛性ベースプレートに取り付けられる、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体が、前記シャフトの末端に取り付けられたスリーブ連結要素を含み、前記スリーブ連結要素が前記剛性ベースプレートを前記シャフトに取り付ける、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記研磨体が、取付け面を有し、前記シャフトに取り付けられたベースプレートと、
前記ベースプレートの取付け面に取り付けられ、前記ベースプレートの取付け面に面した第1の主面と、取り付け面とは異なる方向に面した第2の主面とを有する弾性圧縮可能部材であって、該圧縮可能部材の前記第1の主面及び前記第2の主面はそれぞれ前記ベースプレートの取り付け面と同じ大きさであるか、又は取付け面よりも大きい弾性圧縮可能部材と、
前記圧縮可能部材に取り付けられ、前記圧縮可能部材に面した第1の主面と、前記圧縮可能部材とは異なる方向に面した第2の主面とを有する可撓性の支持層であって、該支持層の前記第1の主面及び前記第2の主面はそれぞれ前記圧縮可能部材の第2の主面よりも大きい可撓性の支持層と、
前記研磨面を有する研磨部材であって、前記研磨面が前記圧縮可能部材及び前記ベースプレートとは異なる方向に面するようにして前記支持層の第2の主面に取り付けられ、前記研磨面が前記支持層の第2の主面と同一の広がりを有する平坦な研磨面を含む研磨部材と、を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。 - 前記研磨部材が前記研磨面を形成する研磨層を含み、前記研磨層が裏材に取り付けられ、前記裏材は、前記研磨面が前記圧縮部材とは異なる方向に面するようにして前記支持層に取り付けられる主面を含む、請求項18に記載の方法。
- 工作物表面の欠陥を修復する方法であって、
被駆動工具のシャフトを用い、回転軸を中心として研磨体の研磨面を回転往復運動させることによって工作物表面の1以上の欠陥をサンディングする工程であって、前記研磨体の研磨面が前記回転軸を中心として回転往復運動する際に、前記研磨体の研磨面に付着された研磨粒子によって前記工作物表面が研磨され、前記研磨面を回転往復運動させることが前記研磨面を1Hz以上の振動数で往復運動させることを含む工程と、
前記工作物表面をパッドの作業面と接触させることによる前記サンディング工程後に、前記1以上の欠陥のそれぞれを囲み、かつ含む前記工作物表面のある領域をポリッシュする工程であって、前記パッドの作業面は、前記工作物表面及び前記パッドの作業面を通じて延びる回転軸を中心として一方向に回転され、研磨スラリーが前記パッドの作業面によって前記工作物表面に押し付けられ、前記研磨スラリーは前記研磨体の研磨面に付着された研磨粒子よりも細かい研磨粒子を含む工程と、
前記1以上の欠陥のそれぞれを囲み、かつ含む各領域に対して行われる1回以上の後続のポリッシュ操作であって、前記1回以上の後続のポリッシュ操作はそれぞれ、前記工作物表面を前記パッドの作業面と接触させることを含み、前記パッドの作業面は前記工作物表面及び前記パッドの作業面を通じて延びる回転軸を中心として一方向に回転され、研磨スラリーが前記パッドの作業面によって前記工作物表面に押し付けられ、前記後続のポリッシュ操作のそれぞれで用いられる前記研磨スラリーは、同じ領域に対して行われた先のポリッシュ操作で用いられる前記研磨スラリーに含まれる研磨粒子よりも細かい研磨粒子を含むポリッシュ操作と、を含む方法。
