Description

U ITED ST TES PATE T OFFICE.
ANDREW FRIBERG, OF MOLINE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.
I Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 82,93 I, dated October 13, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW FRIBERG, of Moline, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, like letters-indicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My invention consists in the construction and application of a plate between the landside and inner handle of a plow, whereby the handle is thrown inward away from land, and is thus preserved from wear by friction on the land, as hereinafter more fully explained.
Figure l is a side view of a portionof a plow with the mold-board removed to show the attachment of the handle. Fig. 2 is a peispective view of aportion of the landside and handle, showing-my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a side view of the plate detached; and Fig. 4 is a section of the same, taken on the line a: a; of Fig. 3.
In constructing plows it is customary to bolt the lower end of the handle direct to the inside of the landside, and then to put an iron plate on the outside of the handle to protect it from wear. Instead of pursuing this plan, I provide a metallic plate or block, 0, of the form represented in Fig. 3. This plate 0, I make of a length equal to the width of the handle, with a flange, a, projecting from its side along the top, as shown in Figs.3 and 4,torest upon the upper edge of the landside A, with narrower flanges d projecting laterally from the same side along each end, these flanges cl resting against the inner side of the landside A,'as shown in Fig. 2. I
Through the center of the plate 0 is made an oblong hole, I), for the bolt to pass through,
which secures the same with the handle to'the landside, the object of making the hole oblong being to permit the plate 0 to be used in connection with landsides of various widths with thickness of the plate, and thus preserves the handle from friction and wear on the land, and reduces the draft just in proportion as it lessens the friction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The plate 0, constructed and applied between the landside A and the handle B of a plow, substantially as described.
A. FRIBERG.
