Description

'NITED STATES `ALEXANDER TURNER, oF NEWARK, NEW JEEsEY.
IMPROVE!) CHILDS TABLE-TRAY.
Specification form/ing part of Letters Patent No. 90,036, dated May 16, 1869.
To all whom it mag/concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER TURNER, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State ot' New Jersey, have invented and made a i new and useful Improvement in Ohilds Tableup, and the front edge turned down to take against the` edge of the table. With this character ottray there is nothing to reta-in water or other liquid that may be spilled on the tray by the child, but the same is very likely to run oft` and-Wet the childs clothes or the hanging portion ot' the table-cloth, or drop on the floor. I
My invention is to obviate these difficulties, and consists in a childs tray in which all the sides are turned up, so as to retain any liquid substance that may be spilled upon such tray,
thereby preventing the childs clothes becoming Wet or damage ensuing from the upsetting of a mug of tea or other drink; and I prevent the'tray sliding upon the table by means of stoplegs that are fastened to the front yedge ot' the tray.
In the drawing the tray a is shown with the flanges or rims b b at the sides, and c at the back.
d is the rim turned up at the front edge, which I prefer should not be as'high as the other portions of the rim, so as not to come into contact with the childs arm or sleeve.
Around the rim a Wire is introduced, and e are legs applied at the front edge of the tray near theangles. These legs become stops, to take against the edge of the table,.and prevent the tray sliding upon said table.
These legs are made of sheetmetal, stamped up into a conoidal form and flattened, and introduced near the angle and around the wire, and securely retained by soldering the same to the sheet metal of the tray at the under land forward portion ot the tray. But I do not limit myself to the particular manner of making these stop-legs.
I am aware that a metal plate or tray has been fitted with clamping-arms extending under the table. It is liable, however, to injure the tablecloth.
Whitt I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The childs table-tray, formed with the rims b b and c higher than the rim` d, in combination with the stoplegs e, attached at the front edge of the tray, as and for the purposes set.
forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 17th day of March, A. D. 1869.
