Abstract

The invention relates to a method for monitoring an object by means of a decentralized alarm detection unit assigned to said object and an alarm centre, which are connected to each other via a digital data network comprising a signalling channel and a message/data transmission channel. According to said method, when an alarm is detected (1), an information element representing a desired connection is transmitted (4) from the decentralised alarm detection unit to the alarm centre, via the signalling channel of the digital network, with said information element comprising an information element which clearly identifies the decentralized alarm detection unit. The information element which clearly identifies the decentralized alarm detection unit is stored (7) by the alarm centre, after which an alarm signal signalling the alarm detection unit is generated (9). If the message/data channel of the digital data network is free, a connection is established (13) between the alarm centre and the alarm detection unit. In addition, when there are gaps in the signalling, test information elements are transmitted cyclically from the decentralized alarm detection unit to the alarm centre through the signalling channel, the presence and/or absence of test information elements enabling the alarm centre to make deductions regarding the decentralized alarm detection unit.
