Abstract

A commodity management system capable of grasping a precise number of commodities in stock and quickly displaying information of the commodities. The commodity management system uses a computer to manage the inventory of commodities laid out in a showcase. The showcase comprises shelves; a small-sized antenna that permits communication with the RFID tags of commodities laid out on the front sides of the shelves; a large-sized antenna that permits communication with the RFID tags of all commodities on the shelves; and a reader/writer that constantly communicates with the RFID tags via the small-sized antenna and also communicates with the RFID tags via the large-sized antenna at predetermined time intervals, thereby reading unique numbers and that, when a commodity is taken out of a shelf, detects, from the unique numbers read via the small-sized antenna, a unique number corresponding to that commodity. The computer has a control part that manages the inventory of the commodities based on the unique numbers of the RFID tags read via the antennas.
