Description
" IM PROVEM ENTS APPLIED TO DISPOSABLE TRAY FOR ACCOMMODATION OF FOOD IN GENERAL".
TECH N ICAL FI ELD
[1] The present invention relates to improvements applied to a disposable tray for accommodation of food in general of the "fresh" type or minimally processed food such as fruits, red and white meat, vegetables, greenery, among other, in which, notably, said tray comprises a specially developed base, in which the totality of its area is filled by juxtaposed micro recesses with enough depth and angulation to form a "hive-like" region designed to retain the organic juice and to separated it from the food accommodated on the tray, furthering the prolongation of durability of the food accommodated on the tray, since humidity is completely retained in the micro recesses, that is, out of contact with the food.
H ISTO RY O F TH E ART
[2] In general, 'fresh' food is acquired for consumption without having suffered any previous changes by processing or any minimal change, while minimally processed food is sold in a different form than that of its original 'fresh' appearance, which, can be sanitized and formatted for consumption, possibly by being grated, sliced, cut into pieces, etc.
[3] Currently, said minimally processed foods from the cold storage industry, such as sliced or cut red or white meat, sliced fruits, chopped vegetables, etc., are widely commercialized due to its practicality and facilitation of the day to day routine, as well as for providing healthy eating. The aforementioned foods, generally, are sold in retail on disposable trays, thermoformed in polymer or polystyrene.
[4] However, some foods are more likely to release liquids (blood and organic juice), favoring an environment in which microbiological spoilage is accelerated, such as meat and some types of fruit, like strawberry, among other.
[5] For this type of food, it is necessary to provide an additional element disposed over the tray's inner surface, more specifically, a non-toxic absorbent blanket or pad, which has the absorption a retention of liquids as it's working principle, which, in turn, manage to preserve the desirable features of the meat or other foods, such as freshness and coloration, and also reducing the undesirable aspect, for example, the meat blood that may drip off the tray sides.
[6] The great majority of the absorbent pads are configured by a pair of plastic films, in which at least one of the films is perforated, and are made of polyethylene intermediated by fabric fiber pulp, and of absorbent material such as super absorbent polymer - SAP -, also known as 'hydrogel'.
[7] Despite the conventional pads being non-toxic and not intervening in the accommodated food's flavor, when the organic juice accumulates, the said pads compose a humid surface that, in direct contact with the reserved food, facilitates the bacteria action, which spoils the food more quickly.
[8] Another disadvantage is due to the fact that the absorbent pads are not recyclable, contributing to environmental pollution.
[9] Another inconvenience is due to the fact that, since the tray is a disposable product, it's cost must be the lowest possible, but the need of including the absorbent pad turns the tray into a product with considerable cost, which is certainly passed on to the final consumers.
[10] Yet another inconvenience is due to the fact that the expanded polystyrene packaging (EPS) presents recycling difficulties, turning into a serious economic, social and environmental issue due to the great volume accumulated in landfills.
ANALYSIS OF TH E STATE OF TH E ART
[11] Through research conducted in specialized data banks, documents have been found relating to trays with absorbing means, such as document N5 PI 0008023-3, which relates to a package tray formed by absorbent material, a recipient, that comprises a porous wall structure defined by a base wall and a continuous side wall rising therefrom, in which at least one portion of the wall structure defines a space that is sealed in a fluid-proof manner, and is at least partially filled with a material of which the wall structure is made, said at least partially filled space being disposed to retain liquid thereon.
[12] Document l\| 2 MU 7901633-2 relates to a tray with a type of an inner absorbent that is formed by a tray-shaped recipient, made of expanded polystyrene that receives an absorbent pad internally and on its bottom wall, preferably made of cellulose pulp and coated with a polyethylene film, which is fixed by a proper adhesive without contact with the packaged product.
[13] Documents FR2997068 and AU2012201699 also are examples of food trays that use absorbent means in the form of blankets or pads or similar.
[14] The aforementioned documents, despite belonging to the same field of application, do not present any of the features of the presently improved object, which is guaranteed to meet the legal requirements of patentability.
O BJ ECTIVES O F TH E I NVENTIO N
[15] Aiming to provide enhancements for the consumer market, the applicant has developed improvements applied to a disposable tray for accommodation of food in general of the "fresh" type or minimally processed food, such as fruits, red and white meat, vegetables, greenery, among other.
[16] Said innovated tray is made of transparent polymer or another suitable material and may present any peripheral shape, such as rectangular, circular, hexagonal, quadrangular, etc.; the food tray in question is yet of the type that
comprises a base on which a configured peripheral wall is developed, in which the edge develops a surrounding cornice.
[17] The innovation contemplated on the tray consists of the fact that the totality of the base area is filled by juxtaposed micro recesses with enough depth and angulation to form a "hive-like" region, designed to retain the organic juice and to separate it from the food accommodated on said tray, furthering the prolongation of durability of the food accommodated on the tray, since humidity is completely retained in the micro recesses, that is, out of contact with the food.
[18] Said micro recesses are presented with identical areas between each other and with rectilinear edges, for example hexagonal, pentagonal, circular, quadrangular or similar, so as to maintain a large area of retention of the liquid/juice coming from the food, and, at the same time, maintain a narrow contact area of the tray surface relative to the food, keeping it substantially free from contact with the liquid/juice.
[19] The aforementioned micro recesses are developed with tapered peripheral walls and slightly angular inner bases, but have identical depths, configuring a linear base for seating with the support plane.
[20] Thus, the organic juice coming from the reserved food on the tray drips so as to be retained in the hive formed by the micro recesses, being totally separated from the reserved food, so as to compose an entirely dry base.
[21] Another advantage is due to the fact that the innovated embodiments of the trays are made by vacuum operation, which does not change the manufacturing cost in comparison to smooth-based trays.
[22] Another innovation consists of the provision of a surrounding cornice with a round edge so as to allow closing of the tray by the application of a plastic film for packing the reserved food.
[23] Another advantage of the present invention is the elimination of the absorbent pad, resulting in a reduction of each tray's final cost.
[24] Another advantage is due to the fact that the tray is entirely recyclable, thereby contributing with the environment.
