I’ve been using TextExpander for several years, and when it’s working, it’s an absolute productivity booster. I use it daily for everything from standard email replies to inserting product specs and legal language into estimates. It’s one of those tools that, once you get used to it, you can’t imagine working without.

Now for the con — and unfortunately, it’s a big one. TextExpander crashes. A lot. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve had to force quit and relaunch the app during a busy workday. Sometimes it just freezes for no reason, or stops expanding snippets until I reboot it. It’s frustrating, especially when I’m in the middle of writing something time-sensitive. I’ve reported the issues, and they seem to come and go with updates, but the stability just hasn’t been what it should be for a paid productivity tool.

Overall, I still recommend TextExpander — but with a caveat. If you’re someone who can deal with occasional crashes in exchange for serious gains in speed and efficiency, it’s worth it. It's so easy to get started. I tend to get overwhelmed by learning a new software or tool, but as soon as I had my first few snippets created and started using them consistently, I wondered how I ever filled out forms without them! TextExpanded is one of the easiest systems to set up, maintain, and use on a daily basis. For the cost of less than 1 coffee per month, I was able to take my common responses and build "snippets" that allowed me to efficiently paste in repeated text in just a few keystrokes.
