The challenge is undeniable: the number of students experiencing homelessness increased by 14% in the 2022–2023 school year, and 83% of school administrators surveyed in our 2025 State of School Transportation Report confirmed that this is a significant challenge for their transportation teams at present. The logistical complexities of McKinney-Vento transportation often overwhelm traditional bus routes, frequently leading to chronic absenteeism among our most vulnerable students. We recently participated in a webinar featuring Joanna McFarland, Co-Founder and CEO of HopSkipDrive, and Barbara Duffield, Executive Director of SchoolHouse Connection, on the topic of providing transportation for our most vulnerable students.
