Interesting. I thought I was the only one. I have a Radeon 7000 here and the problem occurs both in 2.4.21-pre6 and 2.5.66. Hi all, My setup: Linux 2.4.18, X 4.2.0, Radeon 8500, gatos drivers for 4.2.0 exp 11 Everything works fine most of the time. Every now I then when I boot my system, the DVI output on the LCD shows a lot of colored lines/bands. They kind of fill the whole screen. When I run smething, that output also appears but the colored lines are still there. A reboot fixes the problem. What can cause this?? -Pranay |

Well, I do not live in the USA, but I hope there is no obligation for a computer user to create a "digital right protection system" if there isn't any. My graphics card doesn't seem to be equipped with any protection system, except static electricity protection bag. -- Krzysztof Halasa Network Administrator |

Is this true that you have to do this once per reboot ? If so, I suggest you use one of command line tools to toggle this. If this helps, I find sometimes that to get sound, I have to go to the widget that selects the source and 'click' it back and forth -- this is with ntsc composite input. This is usually only needed when avview is first brought up, and is not consistent. There have already been several recent posts regarding the LIRC interface for the ATI Remote Wonder. Hi all, - Setup: 2.4.18, X4.2.0 with gatos experimental 11 I am using Radeon 8500 with DVI out for my projector, Nvidia TNT2 for display on monitor. - The DVI on my projector did not work initially, there was no error on the system but the projector could not detect a signal on DVI. - I used Option "NoDDC" "True" in my Monitor section for the projector and it worked at 1280x1024@75Hz I want to force it to run at 60Hz (or any other refresh rate). Cannot manage, please help. Things that I have tried: 1) Put a modeline with 1280x1024@60Hz 2) Set VertRefresh 60.0 3) Modes "1280x1024" in my screen section. All this with "NoDDC". But the projector always runs at 75Hz. Regards Pranay |

>Sound is muted by default. See the little mute button? Hit it! I have an AIW Radeon 32meg card. I have compiled and installed the latest avview from sourceforge. I get perfect video but no sound. I actually don't see the little mute button you speak of. I'm looking in the AVview AV Control window under ALSA mixer. I see a bunch of buttons labeled "... Playback Switch" and a bunch of volume controls. I can also select a capture source (There are actually two caputer sources I can select which seems a bit weird to me). No matter whcih capture source I select no sound comes out. -Tom |

I was also never able to get the 4.3 version of ati.2 to work with my Rage 128. I ended up getting a Radeon 7500, which provides much better capture, but I'm still running the 4.2 X and driver (with mostly good results); there's some problem somewhere with my 4.3 setup/kernel/km/ati.2. I think this may be related to using Red Hat 8.0 -- I started to try to build a new, standard kernel and try everything again but have not had time. Red Hat 9.0 is coming out in a few days so I think I'll give that a whirl! Hi all, I tried some weeks ago to install gatos on a slackware but encountered some problems by compiling avview ( see archives ) Now I just installed mandrake 9.1 and want to retry compilations and have still more problems than earlier. - release mandrake 9.1 - kernel 2.4.21 - glibc 2.3.1 - gcc 3.2.2 - xfree86 4.3 - downloaded drm-kernel and encountered some problems with compilation ( see log file ) - downloaded ati.2 drivers ( binaries ) and installed them ( no problems ) - downlaoded km and encountered some problems ( see log file above ) I changed Makefile with comments I receive when compile ( -I/ .... see log file ) and has added some optimizations flags. - ffmpeg and alsa are part of the distribution ( so no need to compile them ) - waiting for compile avview. Can somebody help me ??? Thanks for your comprehension. |

Hello. Ever since I switched from an ATI Rage128 to a Radeon 7000, X-4.3 seems to lock up when using the Gimp with large files that support layers such as XCF. Every time I close the Gimp, it just locks up. Similar behavior to that of Marcus Brinkmann eMail: Subject: AIW Radeon 9000 Pro test result - Part 1/2 * The keyboard and mouse clicks cease to work, apps halt and only the mouse cursor moves. ** In my case only the Gimp seems to be having problems ** It always happends when closing (exiting) the Gimp. The hard drive starts spinning and spinning and it just wont stop. Sometimes if I'm lucky, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE brings me back to the console. Most of the times I have to restart Linux manually. This is huge problem for me, since I use the Gimp 2-3 hours just about everyday. The X log doesn't report any errors apart from PageFlipping disabled :-* Currently DRI is enabled. GLXgears is working 883 fps. I'm using the ATI.2(xfree-4.3) and DRM-Kernel(xfree-4.3) drivers from cvs (a week old) My card is not that fancy. No tv-tuner, just a regular ATI Radeon 32MB DDR AGP I was wondering if any of my current XF86Config-4 settings might have something to do with this problem: Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "dbe" # Load "fbdevhw" # ?? Load "GLcore" Load "glx" Load "dri" # Load "drm" # no need to reload it Load "xtt" # Font Renderer # Load "record" # X event recorder ???? # Load "v4l" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Radeon AGP" Driver "radeon" BoardName "Unknown" Option "AGPMode" "2" Option "shadowfb" Option "backingstore" Option "DPMS" "on" Option "AGPFastWrite" "yes" EndSection If anyone would like to see the X log please let me know. Please define what you mean by 'suck'. ;) XFree86 4.3.0 includes the RandR extension, although really only resize is implemented at this point. You can change resolutions and refresh rates (no color depth changes yet) using the xrandr utility (it should be in /usr/X11R6/bin if you've installed 4.3.0). Support for the extension is in the works for desktop environments and window managers -- which should increase the utility of the extension and reduce the 'suck' factor. :) -- Leif Delgass http://www.retinalburn.net |

I've been using X's vesa driver on my PC for a while now (and just after I managed to compile Gatos against XFree86-4.3 too...) so I can have a nice point & click interface to mplayer for my girlfriend that outputs to the tv (I'm thinking about writing a DirectFB menu system for mplayer, but since I can't current program in C, that may take some time...). One thing which _really_ gets to me about using TV-out with the vesa driver is that I have to run at 800x600 to get any action out of it. This is just stupid with Enlightenment, some desktop pagers, some epplets, and Mozilla. It doesn't all fit. What are the chances of a future TV-out driver for the R300 doing scaling of the signal so I can run my monitor at something above 800x600 and still get TV-out at the maximum 800x600? Or should I wait for the RandR extension that is supposed to allow on-the-fly resolution changes that don't suck? What's happening with that anyway? |

Unfortunately, I still have not had the time to put Rage 128 card into my devel box. For those of you that own an ATI All in Wonder 128 and are trying to install Mandrake 9.1 with TV Tuner support for xawtv, I'd like to share my experience. Unlike earlier Mandrake distributions (e.g. 8.2), out-of-the-box support for my card's TV tuner did not work in Mandrake 9.1. Relevant hardware: Abit KT7 motherboard Athlon 1GHz processor 192MB PC100 RAM SB 16 Value (PnP ISA) After install the 9.1-supplied GATOS and xawtv RPMs, I was getting the same errors as Chris McHugh (__7IWindowPcT1PUlii, etc.). None of the applications that want to display the tuner as an Xv overlay would work. So I tried installing the most recent version of ati.2 for XFree86 4.3. BIG mistake. When restarting X, my computer's screen went blank, and stayed that way. Luckily, I could still boot into single user mode, so not all was lost. So I did some checking in Google, newsgroups, and this mailing list and found the answer. I noticed this post ( http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=4018994 ) from benoitDV, and since I had pretty much the same AIW card (mine has 32MB instead), I decided to give it a try. I downloaded and installed ati.2 binaries 4.2.0-16 (experimental 16) and guess what? TV works! And even better, 3d acceleration still works to! Well, now I'm happy and I figured there might be other people out there who are experiencing this problem - I hope it works. -Villa __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Dear Administrator: I work for a higher ed institution and am in the process of developing a linux based application that can capture 2 video streams. A sample windows based application from a vendor - just a screenshot, so I can explain you my project more clearly. http://www.imagingcontrol.com/ic/images/simpway_triggermdi_src-zoom.gif I did see a very similar screenshot from your AvView, but could not find any reference to hardware other than ATI stuff/Video chipset compatibility. Could you please shed some light on that and if AvView can handle 4-incoming streams and write them RAW, 30fps using DMA to disk ? My hardware is from Linux Media labs (URL below). All I would want this application to do is preview _TWO_ streams on the screen from the capture card and then dump them in raw format to the harddisk. Could you please help me with that ? I am using Linux Media Labs LMBT44 (https://www.linuxmedialabs.com/product_details.php?prodid=310 ) as my PCI capture board.
