If I run avview I get the followiong output: linux:~/avview-0.80.7 # ./start_avview.no_install libzvbi available export modules: HTML:keyword "html" mimetype "text/html" extension "html, htm" PPM:keyword "ppm" mimetype "image/x-portable-pixmap" extension "ppm" Text:keyword "text" mimetype "text/plain" extension "txt" VTX:keyword "vtx" mimetype "application/videotext" extension "vtx" Initializing LIRC. avview: could not connect to socket avview: Connection refused Failed to initialize LIRC, remote control support disabled. hi i'm tryng to get a similar (identical?) card, with little success, if you care to check for the description you can read: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=13491403 my setup is a little older than xorg 7.0 X Window System Version 6.8.99.903 (6.9.0 RC 3) and I'm using AMD64, so maybe that's a (big?) part of the problem, in addition I'm on PAL input signal in sum I got: - very buggy tuning, meaning you can't use the same parameters to tune the same channels throug avview sessions AND very loose tuning, better if i play with the debugging xv param - very unstable record/snapshot, including kernel oops in km - less frequently corruption in the windows bitmaps if you don't know where to find the microcode is in the ATI cd should be a file named ativmc20.cod or very similar good luck Vladimir Dergachev wrote: > > > On Sun, 22 Jan 2006, Kris Anderson wrote: > >> Hi folks, >> >> With all the development that is going on has there >> been changes, additions, deletions to anything on the >> web site? >> >> The particular areas I'm looking at are: >> supported_cards.php > > > Hi Kris, > > I originally made up supported_cards.php with cards that I had > access to and could test the driver with. Hi Kris,
I originally made up supported_cards.php with cards that I had access
to and could test the driver with. The driver in X.Org 6.9.0 should work
with most Radeons with Rage Theatre /Rage Theatre 200 attached.
One should emphasize the "should" part - there might be issues with
non-standard configurations and non-NTSC formats.
Since I had not have a chance to play with TV-in for a while now the
page become a bit stale - if anyone wants to update it please do so.

The big change in installation instructions is that you need X.Org 6.9.0
or later and you can have it precompiled.

Hi folks, With all the development that is going on has there been changes, additions, deletions to anything on the web site? The particular areas I'm looking at are: supported_cards.php For example, is the AIW 9800 Pro supported or any of the newer cards? ati.2.php Are the installation instructions updated to reflect some sort of new fangle way of getting things going? I seem to recall on the list that some sort of micro code file was or might be needed so things would work but I don't see it mentioned in the ati.2 page as part of the installation process. And finally, if anybody has any success on getting an AIW 9800 Pro working with gatos, and how did you do it? I can't wait to get off of Windows XP. Thanks. Have a great day. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com |

With old ati.2 drivers from GATOS (Mandrake 10.0 + XFree 4.3.0 + ati.2) there was no such limitation. I could play 768x576 videos through Xv on the same hardware. I have posted this question on xorg mailing lists and received response from Ville Syrjälä: "The max horizontal resolution depends on the chip type. It's 384 for VT/GT rev A, 768 for Rage Pro/LT Pro and 720 for all other chip types. The specs don't state the limits very clearly but I have verified those limits on numerous chips while writing the DirectFB driver. It looks like the Xv driver has wrong vertical resolution limit as well. The hardware limit is 1024 but the driver allows resolutions up to 2048." Also there are some old xatitv -v dumps in gatos-devel archive; they contain info like this: PCI card @ 0:9:0 ATI Mach64 VT (Mach64 VT): ==> RefClock 14.318180 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 80 MHz, Max Scaler Width 384 PCI card @ 0:11:0: ATI 3D Rage (Mach64 GT): ==> RefClock 14.318180 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 80 MHz, Max Scaler Width 720 PCI card @ 0:11:0: ATI 3D Rage II+DVD (Mach64 GU): ==> RefClock 28.630000 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 100 MHz, Max Scaler Width 720 AGP card @ 1:0:0: ATI Rage PRO AGPx2 (Mach64 GB): ==> RefClock 14.318180 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 135 MHz, Max Scaler Width 768 PCI card @ 0:11:0: ATI Rage PRO PCI (Mach64 GP): ==> RefClock 29.498929 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 135 MHz, Max Scaler Width 768 AGP card @ 1:0:0: ATI Rage 128 GL AGP (Rage128 RF): ==> RefClock 14.318180 MHz, Max Scaler Clock 135 MHz, Max Scaler Width 1280 > >> Alexander >> >> > Yours sincerely, > Peter > |

Hello, I think there is a bug in X.org 6.9/7.0 atimisc mach64 driver. Details are here: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5586 In short, overlay on Rage Pro is limited to 720 pixels (that's width of image to be scaled). AFAIK this limitation was introduced in ati.4.4.0 driver. I hope that someone can clarify the issue (i.e. whether this is a bug or not) and/or provide hints on how to properly fix this. Alexander |

You can verify that the Gatos driver is being used by checking /var/log/Xorg.log after starting X. There should be a message saying something along the lines "read more about multimedia capabilities of the driver at gatos.sf.net" when the driver is loaded. -- Antti Ajanki |

Hello On http://gatos.sourceforge.net/ati.2.php I read that the ati.2 driver has been merged to X.org 7.0. Somewhere I read that 6.9 has the same codebase as 7.0, just it isn't modular. Hi all,
I was trying to patch the cvs of Xorg 7.0 to enable tvout, but no luck of i=
t.
Since Xorg 7.0 is modularized, therefore the Imakefile part of the
patch becomes useless (I guess ?). Therefore I patched the Makefile.am
under the
./driver/xf86-video-ati/src
by refering how theatre200 does in the Makefile.am
I also modified the radeon.h which has 1 hunk rejected from the
lastest tvout patch.
The building procedure of theatre_detect_drv.so went all right without
any problem.
But then I was not able to start the patched Xorg (I can start the one
from CVS, which is not patched with the tvout). The error message I
saw:
(II) Loading sub module "theater_out"
(II) LoadModule: "theater_out"
(II) Loading /opt/xorg7-cvs/lib/xorg/modules/multimedia/theater_out_drv.so
(II) Module theater_out: vendor=3D"X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 4.3.99.902, module version =3D 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
*** be the reason for the server aborting.
Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting
The patched and the Xorg log can be both found at :

Thank you,
Will

Hi Rune!
First of all a big thanks for putting the info page together!
I applied the patch to Xorg-6.9.0 and recompiled -- flawlessly.
It seems I misunderstood the README, and _any_ 800x600 resolution on the
"primary monitor" will do. However, I have none attached, as the board is to
serve as a HTPC, maybe that is part of the problem?
On the mainboard's composite output, I get perfect PAL sync timimg, if I can
believe the oscilloscope. But the picture is about a factor of 2 too big,
starting at about 1/3rd of the screen, wrapping around, and ending at 2/3rds.
This is both horizontally and vertically. Each line wraps into the next, so
consequently the vertical size doesn't fit either. I tried 16bpp and 24bpp,
but that made no difference.
Can I suspect there's 2 PLL clocks involved in the process, 1 generating the
video timing, and one that clocks the DAC or horizontal shift register? If
so, the latter clock is obviously much too slow.
Are there any tunables I can try?
Attached the PCI identification and the relevant parts from the Xorg.log.
I could also personal mail a screenshot, if the description isn't clear.
Thanks to all involved for the work so far (binary-only sucks!)
Thanks in advance for any further help,
Torsten

For my TV (a cheep one) I need to select AV as YC2 to get a proper image (or I get the same result as you), further my TV only have one AV-in (SCART) with S-VIDEO support, the rest does not. If none of this helps is the only sure thing to do is to run the system with Windows 98+ and ATI's driver to confirm if its software or hardware. Alex Deucher was working on proper/more complete TV-out driver in his superpatch, but was dropped because it was broken and he had his hands full. As for the tv_output patch it will not be merged with Xorg, because: - It's more or less a hack. - the original author Federico Ulivi, released the code under GPL, which won't get into the Xorg-tree.
