Hi, everyone, I'm trying to get closed captioning working on my ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. I'm using km and avview on fedora core 6. I compiled them from cvs about a month ago (not easy, lol) My incoming signal is Time Warner Cable. I'm succesfully able to watch tv, tune in all of the stations, and can capture using km and avview. for that, i'm very grateful to you guys. On channels 50 and 99 the closed captioning seems to work fine. but, on channel 49 i'm only getting the wrong closed captioning channel, cc3. when i try to do a raw decode of line 21 using ntsc-cc to decode /dev/vbi0 (v4l), i see what appears to be the xds service. this is just information about the channel and what show is on. I've read that xds is usually provided on line 21 of field 2 not field 1 of the frame. also, cc channel 3 is usually provided on field 2. so, my conclusion is that the fields are getting switched, and that i'm only receiving vbi from field 2. i would like to get the vbi from field 1. can anyone give me advice on getting vbi from the other field? You have force the driver to use suboptimal modelines for the LCD screen, see: http://megahurts.dk/rune/tv_output.html Look under: "TV-out not working when a LCD monitor is connected" > Is it possible to start a second TV X session on demand > without blanking out the existing session? No, sorry. The hack runs the TV-out off the primary port and is dependent on the radeon driver to set up the primary port just right. Rune Petersen |

I am able to successfully start a second X session using the aforementioned command, but am having trouble starting X on my LCD & TV simultaneously (nothing on the TV). Is it possible to start a second TV X session on demand without blanking out the existing session? For the record, the following modifications to my xorg.conf resulted in successful TV output (I changed them all at once, I know it's bad form, so they may not all be strictly necessary): Section "Device" Identifier "Video0" Driver "radeon" Option "AGPMode" "4" Option "AGPFastWrite" "yes" Option "TVOutput" "NTSC" Option "IgnoreEDID" "true" Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE, CRT" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "TV" HorizSync 30.0 - 40.0 VertRefresh 60 Modeline "800x600" 40.00 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 Option "DPMS" EndSection Thanks again, Ricky |
